Is it annoying when you rush through and craft a medium printer before it tells you to do so only to have to make another one? kinda yeah but I look at it like this. that's a printer that can be packaged up and taken to another planet for the building on another base.
That's a fair point. I will probably use two medium printers at some point. Initially I was writing this as a post about my thoughts on the mission system as a returning player, but it didn't turn out that well so I decided to shorten it down to this. I think my main issue with the mission system is that the game "punishes" you when you don't do the tasks in the exact order that the missions appear, which makes researching and crafting a lot less exciting. I don't think tracking the missions before you get them would solve this entirely, but it would at least make it not punishing exploration of the research and crafting.
Also I haven't gotten too far into the missions so I don't know if they follow you the entire game or if they are just at the start. If they're just at the start then it's maybe fine (if they make it track missions you don't yet have).
I found myself deliberately not crafting something until I explicitly was asked by the tutorial - just so I would get the mission reward.
It really shouldn't be that far fetched to change the reward trigger from "craft" something to "have" something.
I dislike the quests as well. If they were optional I would have nothing against them :)
