I'd love to have a big soil canister too, but I'm afraid the game doesn't support it quite yet.
However, as you suggested, one simple-ish way you could have one is to simply stick a tier 1 socket onto the top of it, and allow me to dump soil from backpack soil canisters into it. It would work in exactly the same way as the soil centrifuge deposit functionality, but obviously without any of the resource extraction aspect to it. Just a big ol' tank you deposit soil into.
To make it desirable vs. crafting ten small ones could be having it very simply have 10x the soil capacity of a small one. And comparative ease of use and transportation.
I'd be in favour of them taking resin and glass, since that would follow the pattern of small to medium recipes of equipment of the same kind. The small takes resin to make, so you add glass on top of that and done.
Precisely. I don't see why it wouldn't. Put it on one of the side slots of the large platform the centrifuge is on and the centrifuge draws from it directly. Other than that, you might slightly tweak the centrifuge model to have a tier 2 socket somewhere on it.
I'm not sure if they ever intend to merge the canisters and the gas flasks, but maybe. At any rate it'll most likely be used for storing liquids if that becomes a thing.
Were canisters ever used to hold hydrazine? As I recall, hydrazine nuggets, even though they shared the same canister model, were their own thing and did not require empty canisters to be created. Which, maybe, they could've done.
However, that would leave the player with mountains of spent hydrazine canisters to deal with on top of everything else. I'm skeptical as to how interesting that would've been as gameplay.
