Building blocks
Basically, a medium-tier item about size of filled medium storage.
It woudl do nothing except stick to terrain and other building blocks and provide collision surface.
It could be printed using a canister of soil and 1 Resin, with different soil types providing different colors of the resulting blocks.

Sure, it's taking a page out of minecraft's book, but it'd let players create something else than junky walls and bridges using terrain deformer tool.

I'm sure System Era have said in the past that they specifically want to avoid block based building to help keep their game distinct from that other game. Modular printed walls and platforms are more likely.

Modular printed walls and platforms = blocks. ;)
Besides, there is a big difference in that the world itself is not block-based.

Well, in principle, yeah. I just don't think we're going to see blocks that click together into any arbitrary shape, LEGO style. Astroneer has more of a Playmobil aesthetic.

I'd say Terratech or Scrap Mechanic. But without "arbitrary shape" the game will stay purely tech oriented, with little to no place for artistic expression. While I'm not an artist, I think some players would certainly enjoy that.

Though desire to avoid copycatting Crimenaft is perfectly understandable. =)

I would love to see a flat metal plate so I have somewhere to park my rovers where they won't slide down a hill the instant I get into the driver's seat. Then I wouldn't have to screw around with the terrain tool, trying to get the flat tool to make me a horizontal surface, instead of a vertical surface.

I feel a handbrake would be more useful in that regard, and it's been requested a few times.
