We haven't tried creating a new world, but honestly, given this is the second time it's happened, years apart (last time it was only me who couldn't connect, but as that meant we couldn't use it for family gaming, we dropped it), I really don't want to bother as I don't feel it'll add anything - and we won't be able to trust it to continue to work.
About the only thing I can think of is that I'm actually fairly sure that in both cases, it came about after a fifth person had played on the world. But I'm really not sure why that should have any effect - and we're not going to play, or be able to recommend the game, if that is the reason, as the kids want to be able to invite their friends in to play on their main world.
Oh, obviously we've also tried all the usual - restart the game, restart Steam, reboot Windows, etc etc.
I know, its a bit late, but better late than never...
We were experiencing the same problem. From one moment to the next I could not join to my friends world what we built together. The error message was: "Your connection to the host has been lost".
The solution is ridiculous, but it works:
There is a tool in the game called "proximity repeater". If you have at least 2 of these and they are too close to each other (when turned on), they cause a bug - and this prevents you from connecting to the host. Just take those damn repeaters far away from each other! ;)
Yeah mate, I know, that's why I wrote "if". And many ppl on other forums struggled with connecting to the host because of this exact bug.
Thanks so much Pollux!
This solved the problem we were having completely. I really appreciate you giving us a fix as I would never have guessed that this was the issue
We got the extra Proximity repeater as part of a quest, and I didn’t even know we had it. Not 100% if it was turned on or not but the solution of moving/destroying it fixed the bug.
Thank you!!!!!!!! This worked for me!! Thank you so much!
Hi Ambling!
Um glad I could help you mate :)
I am Happi for you ;)
What a Hero !!! I got the sensors on a quest and had no idea it was a problem !!!
I play with my wife and kid and this problem was driving me nuts.
Many thanks !!!
I love you for that. We were about to stash this game away, since we didn't feel like starting a new run, fearing the save game would bug out again. <3

It did work thank you . Lucky running into this post 2 years later and that is ridiculous lol BUT WORK :)
No fkn sense by the way, but it works, as soon as I told to my friend (owner of the game save) to take those objects away from where they were I successfully joined the game. Why tf they did never fix this shi?????
Thank you again.
