your connection with the host has been lost
We bought the game in early access, played eagerly as the kids especially loved it. Stopped playing a good couple of years ago, couldn't remember why (other than the fact it resulted in sauna conditions with 4 of us in the same room playing LOL)

Kid2 wanted to play again, started a new world. We put a heck of a lot of time and effort into establishing it, were loving all the new features compared to when we last played, then bam, nobody can connect.

And now I remember why we stopped before. Years ago. And searches show that this problem goes back at least to 2017.

Pretty blinking unhappy about it, especially as kid2 is very sad. Very reluctant to start a new world, as it's not as if it's the first one this has happened to, only difference is this time nobody can connect.

Any suggestions on how to fix it? The load-the-world-die-and-then-invite trick doesn't work. 3 of us trying to connect are on lan, a fourth is external.

We've also tried copy-pasting the world and renaming, no difference. Firewall settings have been checked - kid2 and I both have two entries for Astroneer, slightly oddly my second one was allowing private, barring public whereas his was allowing public and barring private (the first entry for both of us had both checked), but even ensuring all were checked hasn't helped. We've tried deleting all the config files as well, as that is also suggested somewhere, again to no avail.

We haven't tried creating a new world, but honestly, given this is the second time it's happened, years apart (last time it was only me who couldn't connect, but as that meant we couldn't use it for family gaming, we dropped it), I really don't want to bother as I don't feel it'll add anything - and we won't be able to trust it to continue to work.

About the only thing I can think of is that I'm actually fairly sure that in both cases, it came about after a fifth person had played on the world. But I'm really not sure why that should have any effect - and we're not going to play, or be able to recommend the game, if that is the reason, as the kids want to be able to invite their friends in to play on their main world.

Oh, obviously we've also tried all the usual - restart the game, restart Steam, reboot Windows, etc etc.

Hi Marauder!
I know, its a bit late, but better late than never...
We were experiencing the same problem. From one moment to the next I could not join to my friends world what we built together. The error message was: "Your connection to the host has been lost".

The solution is ridiculous, but it works:
There is a tool in the game called "proximity repeater". If you have at least 2 of these and they are too close to each other (when turned on), they cause a bug - and this prevents you from connecting to the host. Just take those damn repeaters far away from each other! ;)

That's not a solution if some people don't have those in their game (:

Yeah mate, I know, that's why I wrote "if". And many ppl on other forums struggled with connecting to the host because of this exact bug.

Thanks so much Pollux!

This solved the problem we were having completely. I really appreciate you giving us a fix as I would never have guessed that this was the issue :steamhappy:

We got the extra Proximity repeater as part of a quest, and I didn’t even know we had it. Not 100% if it was turned on or not but the solution of moving/destroying it fixed the bug.

Only just seen this - I'll have a look into it, and will (eventually LOL) report back if it turns out to be the problem :)

@Pollux
I love you for that. We were about to stash this game away, since we didn't feel like starting a new run, fearing the save game would bug out again. <3

I do not know you man, but I am so happy your parents made you. I do not even know how many hours I spent trying to fix this ridiculous bug without success, now it works.
No fkn sense by the way, but it works, as soon as I told to my friend (owner of the game save) to take those objects away from where they were I successfully joined the game. Why tf they did never fix this shi?????
Thank you again.
