Resources still falling through terrain
These release has been fun, but I'm out until the full version next year, apparently with a new terrain engine or whatever you call it. This version is fun but still frustrating to play on. I had a stack of stuff in a hole, instead of leaving them laying around for the next storm to scatter everything. Dropped some aluminum onto the stack and watched as it 'floated' down through the terrain and out of sight - I dug and dug, confirming it's just gone. POOF!

Just weird the ground isn't, well, a ground. More like a pillow made of wet toilet paper.

Have had this happen to several different items ranging from tiny salvage to entire vehicles with this game since its EA release. I have personally lost hope until 1.0 and even then... idk... Eh :/

Just had my large rover + trailer and all of my resources go poof on my returning from a trip to the tundra planet. On digging down from where it was, sure enough, there's my rover a few feet underground, trapped in dirt. Thankfully it wasn't in some enormous cave system a hundred meters below, at least, but it's still a colossal pain in the butt to dig it, and everything else, out and put it back where it was. A pain I don't feel like subjecting myself to, so that's gonna be a deleted save.

Game breaking issue as far as I'm concerned, and something I earnestly hope you're going to prioritize fixing for launch.

I almost quit because of this the other day. It took about 3 hours to retrieve everything from the cavern below.

My research has led me to the conclusion that no item is safe outside of a platform.

I had thought then that all vehicles are unsafe unless they are parked on the black surface that you spawn upon at game start. I found that not to be the case as my buggy was missing again upon revisiting that base it was parked on at the equator upon returning from the south pole.

So if its not a platform or an item locked upon a platform (containers are not safe alone) it isn't safe when you save and leave game, leave the area or leave the planet.

I believe this can all be fixed though to an extent by giving other items the same coding that platforms receive or either changing the order in which a game world loads and saves.

Or give us snap to grid floors for our bases that treat everything above them as a platform.

I have not had my rover fall through as of yet but yes the buggy is gone again.

I have the same issue, just had 5 full storage modules fall down below. The extra weird thing is they where placed on the black top from the original home base. I thought at least that spot would be safe. :/

On a side note, I cannot drive my rover backwards. Forwads and sideways? Works great. Backwards? Nope.

When using the buggy's below ground on Arid, when the creatures that drop lines with red bulbs on end grab your buggy/rover it drops the rover through the terrain. You can escape by exiting the rover, but then the rover is gone.

I just noticed this happening too and its may 2020. At first I was getting exicited finding materials in a cave then there were more when I went back to the cave and got even more exctied.....then my tether line went black and I had to book it to the surface(thankfully I wasn't that deep). One tether fell through the ground too. I then relazied I didn't seem to have any more of the resources in question, counted, went down, found more "free" materials then came up to the base to see I had less materials than when I left the base.

Yeah, but "Automation is coming to Astroneer" :steammocking:

Well, this is still happening. I have had a plenty of resources fall through the terrain when I try and put it down. Most egregiously, though, I have had several large scrap items fall through the ground when you package them.
