However, I believe they recently added in a bit of exit code to save the game when it is exited without saving in a habitat/seat. Unfortunately when you close your laptop lid, it is an immediate exit code that they haven't accounted for so it didn't save. They can fix that and make it save but the game will still exit.
However, be aware that there is also a potential overheat cable issue if you do this, which ultimately can cause your screen to malfunction if you disable it.
Depends largely on the cable design for the connection that passes through the hinge between laptop mainboard and screen. Some advanced laptops like sony or samsung work better than other manufacturers.
A few years back, this issue was so bad with samsung/toshiba laptops that it was regarded as an out of warranty repair or customer damage it occurred so often.
This is one of the major advantages of notebooks/pads over laptops. Or laptop versions with disconnectable screens.
