Game opens on wrong monitor now, need setting to select which display to use
I haven't really played in the last 6-8 months been waiting for research 2.0, modularity, etc but I opened it today and first thing i noticed was the game opens on the wrong / secondary monitor now.

Now, I don't think this is specifically the game's fault - I think its related to the Windows 10 creative update from some months ago that messed up some other stuff...I had one other game do this recently since then tho I forget which off the top of my head, but the difference there is one of the graphics options was selecting which display for it to use to fix it. Sadly, Astroneer still lacks this so the only way I can play it non windowed currently is on the wrong monitor. Even if you move the "windowed" version over to the correct one, when you hit alt+enter again it fullscreens on the wrong one.

So yeah, this is kinda a bug thats not specifically Astroneers fault itself but does create a case where adding the "select display" setting could easily fix it. Not sure what other way there is to do it.

The game should always open on the monitor that's set as "primary".
Though you can fix this by holding WinKey, then press Arrow Left or Right to move the Window to another screen.

Nvm the edit, clicked by accident.

What happens is the game starts to open on the primary monitor (where you see the system era logo) then after it gets past loading and to the main menu it switches to the secondary one.

That being said, win+shift does work which is a shortcut I didn't know about so thank you for telling me that.

necropost I'm still getting the same issue. I'll see the launcher on my primary, which is set as primary, and all my other games launch on, but this one will immediately launch onto my secondary monitor. The WINSHIFT arrow thing does work, which is what I've been doing to fix, but fixing is annoying.

It's the same for me. The splash screen is on my primary monitor, but the game itself always opens on my secondary monitor.

Same for me. Splash screen on my primary monitor, and the game opens on the secondary monitor.

My temporary solution is to go display settings, fullscreen->windowed and move the window to the primary monitor after it finishes loading.

I've caught that bug too, but it's worse, that windows key + arrow key thing doesn't work and i can't go out of fullscreen to manually move it, i even tried changing the main screen and nothing puts it in the middle

on steam go to libary right click on Astroneer and select properties,
then select Launch Options and type in -WinX=0 -WinY=0

That might fix the placement of the window to the primary monitor, but it still only recognices the resolution from my secondary monitor, wich is lower then my primary. So ingame I still can only chose the 1680x1050 while my primary is 1920x1080
i have 3 monitors, the main one is in the middle and the game always opens on the left monitor

the center monitor IS set to primary and they're all properly configured

I have the same issues. The launch options mentioned above seem to fix it, but why is this even still an issue?

Confirmed as a big "nope".
I think it's opening either on the largest desktop (in terms of resolution) or the one that contains the origin (0,0) from the overall desktop space and definitely not the designated "primary".
I have 3 monitors as well, with typically two active/connected usually.
Depending on what I'm doing I will swap the "primary" around and also the relative desktop positions (left/right vs above/below) yet the game always and only opens on the same monitor.

The game also has an inability to be or remain fullscreen. There is borderless windowed but it's not the same thing and during startup it will reset to windowed (border) back to its orig size (if you had resized) and back to the first desktop. If you want to play the game on a monitor of your choice and at a resolution of your own choosing you are forced to wait until all loading is done and then hope that your actual resolution was correctly detected and made available instead of the one from another monitor/desktop instead (ie incorrect detection of available resolution choices).

This isnt the BIGGEST problem for some people, but however the monitor ASTRONEER is opening on is the monitor directly above my primary, ive tried winkey + ♥♥♥♥ + arrow keys, and that doesn't work, when I switch it to windowed, the top of the window is not visible, therefore making it impossible to drag....

Alternatively, you can either disconnect the monitor(s) you dont want Astroneer to open in, OR you can Alt+spacebar, then press M. Then use arrow keys to move the game window.
