Can't join friends co-op session

Earlier today I joined my friend's session fine but after leaving and restarting astroneer, he invited me and when I accepted the invite nothing happened. rip :(

We figured out that you have to start the game fresh to join a multiplayer game, you cannot quit your single player and go straight into multiplayer, you have to get out of the entire game and get back in and ONLY go into multiplayer, we have no idea why.

May I ask how you go only into multiplayer?

Sorry I didn't respond quicker haha, but yea just open the game and go right into multiplayer. Don't open the game and go singleplayer THEN multiplayer, it wont work. Just close out of the game completely then open it as usual, and as soon as it opens just shift+tab and go to friends, right click his/her name and join game, or just have them invite ya.

although you should mention not only to stay at the start of the game, you actually have to launch and then let your friend instantly join you before you land.

I am not able to join my friend's game when I do this. Also, what do you mean by "launch"

he means how when you start a game the pod "launches" off the station and eventaually lands on the planet
