Spawning items in w/o creative?

Hey all, friend an I are wanting to try a custom game mod for ourselves only starting with an XL shredder, and a platform to put it on, and playing the game without using the tool to farm any resource, essentially only using scrap and dirt. Is there any way to do this without turning on creative which ruins the quest system?

Anyone know a way to start a playthrough with an XL shredder ?

I don't think this is possible. As of yet, custom games only allow you to specify what items you have in your backpack from the start. And you can only choose from a limited selection of items.
