Ruby Thing, Storm Death, Why??
I don't have the DLC yet but was playing and got to the point where i got this Ruby thing that you put on a rover and you are supposed to drive into a storm to collect data, i drove into the storm and it killed me, like almost instantly, popped me out of the rover and died next to it. Why?? I had a portable oxygenator and RTG's on my backpack so i know i didn't suffocate, and now the rover i was on and all my stuff is stuck in the storm and i can't go back in and get it because again i just die upon entering.

What's the point of this Ruby thing if you insta-die when going into the storm to try and use it??

No amount of protection will help you when inside the storm. It has nothing to do with oxygen, being in a vehicle, or even having snails. You are being hacked which (my theory) means that your backpack gets hacked and you lose all functionality of the backpack and anything on it. Look closely right above your head when you enter the storm. You'll see what starts off as a white "ball". It fills clockwise and when it's full, you are hacked.

You should be able to stay in the storm for a good 10 or so seconds before being completely hacked, so run in, do what you need to do and then run out. Your health insta resets as soon as you leave the storm. Rinse/repeat.
Ahh ok i didn't see that white ball thing because i had my compass up and it was covering it, turned the compass off and stepped in quick and saw what you mean. Currently waiting for the storm to shift as my rover and all my stuff is stuck in the middle of the storm, and by rover i mean large rover train with XL shredder and 2k storage containers, i was out collecting resources and scrap and brought the ruby thing with, it didn't really explain what i was supposed to do with it well enough so i figured bring it with.

Not like the old storms, pretty wicked.

If the area is level land, you should be able to run in, hop in, drive out in enough time.

The storms on the regular game are supposed to move from time to time. Pop up here, then there. No idea if that is triggered before accessing the dlc side or not though, so it may move, it may not. I've also heard that a reload of the save triggers the storm to respawn in another location. Again, not sure if that works before activating the dlc or not.
So can the storm spawn over, or move over, your base location? That would be pretty bad, cant go to the base location while a storm is there or you die.

The storm does not actually move. It spawns, then disapates, then respawns elsewhere. Again, haven't timed it, so no idea how long that takes. And, not sure if any of this mechanism is there before you activate the dlc. I'm leaning towards no, because it would suck if you had to travel far (by vehicle/foot/vtol/hoverboard) to get to the storm only to watch it disapate right in front of you before your able to do what you need to do and then the storm respawns all the way on the other side.
I don't have the DLC, i have been watching the storms spawn and disappear and then spawn again, it disappeared from the location where i died and i was able to get back to my rover train and drive it back, it was not in a flat spot and i was using the paver and drill to make a path so i couldn't run in and grab it.

I have seen the storm despawn right as i got near it and then show up at a different direction on the compass when it respawned, so it does seem you have to chase down the storms.

I just bought the DLC, so will see what changes.

I also don't have the DLC but have the storms spawn on my planets. Did they just add a version of them to the base game? I was under the impression that it was a only a DLC thing.

Good luck. It's quite interesting. It has been easy for some, and very difficult for others.

HINT: Traveling East/West keeps you in the same biome and therefor you are only getting certain resources. Traveling North/South gets you to the other biomes where the remaining resources and POIs are. The terrain can be challenging.

I believe all planets except for Sylva have a storm on it now.

I believe I have read the same too, also, "all open content" is for the base game, only the missions off the dlc, and ofcourse the planet, are dlc only. That is because you are no longer playing "astroneer" and are playing "astroneer glitchwalker".

Geaux here will correct me if needed.

I haven't gone back to Sylva yet, but if I heard correctly fromt the dev vlog, Sylva should remain without storms. That would explain why the mission makes us go to another planet/moon to get to a storm.

I have just moved on from "base 1" towards the next storm cell, I dont think I will be back to sylva any time soon...on the bright side I have zinc now so, could be worse.

Sphalerite and clay were hard to find so far, but now that I found it's biome, I found more than I'll (probably) need. Now I just need to get a hold of titanite. Geared up this morning to take the trek to Delta tonight after work. Will probably be gearing up for Zeta shortly after that.

Just started playing the DLC, its nice it creates a new save after going through the portal. So i can pop back to my other save and continue playing there when i want.
