ASTRONEER

ASTRONEER

Different Terrain when joining multiplayer game.
I haven't played Astroneer for a while, and a friend wanted to play. They gifted me the Glitchwalker DLC, which I accepted. I didn't see anything download. So, I assumed it was because the content was already downloaded but just required unlocking via purchase.

But, then we tried starting a new multiplayer game. They hosted and I joined. But, the terrain I landed on was completely different to what they had. I didn't land in a different location, because their astroneer was right next to mine, as was the initial habitat pod, but, while they had flat, open terrain, I was on a mountain side. We tried a second, new game, and the same thing happened. After closing the game, closing Steam, and even verifying the installed files and checking that the DLC was installed, I tried hosting and game, but the same thing happened, in reverse; I had open Plains, but they were on a hillside. We screenshared via Discord and even the distant terrain features were different. It was like our two ends were generating their worlds which were being overlapped when joining the game.

We have no idea what could be causing this. Do I actually have Glitchwalkers installed? Is some setting messing with us? Help, please?

Does the person that hosted the game have the DLC? The host is the only person that needs the dlc for all to play. If they do have the dlc, then maybe they didn't change over to the DLC world in the main menu?
As far as I'm aware, they do have the DLC. It's my understanding they've been playing it, previously.

But, neither of us are sure what you mean by "change over to the DLC world in the main menu". I'm looking through all the game's menus, even the custom game menus, and not seeing anything that looks like a DLC world toggle.

We did eventually fix the problem, by way of the host setting a custom seed. But, we still have no idea what was actually causing the problem to begin with.

The changing between the vanilla and dlc is at the top of the menu. At work, but can screenshot it when I get home.

*For someone who has the DLC and needs to complete the missions to get access to the dlc

-You need to complete a few missions that are actually accessible very early in game

-After you complete those missions and port over to the DLC world, you will then have the option to switch between vanilla and dlc. This option is mainly for a player to then start a new dlc playthrough without needing to do those missions again in the vanilla game.

-Any save in the dlc version with have a purplish sterisk next to the save file

Again, the host is the one that NEEDS to have the DLC in order to host. Guests do not need to buy the DLC when joining a game hosted by someone who owns the DLC. The awards (cosmetics) you get when completing all the DLC missions will only be available for the host.

No, no. We weren't starting a DLC game. We were starting from the beginning, on Sylva. We're working towards the DLC content, right from the start, not jumping right into the DLC.

I've noticed that when I started a new save file, it always places me on the same map, and in order to get a new one, I need to quit to the main menu and start another one new game.

I definitely think there's something broken with the game's map generation.

maybe a solution my friend had a VPN on, after turning it off we had no more issues!

I reinstalled the game and it seems to have fixed it.
