I really dislike exo chips
I'm returning to play after a long hiatus and had to start a new game due to losing my save files.

The exo chip mechanic is truly annoying and not really adding any enjoyment to the game.

It's just another ploy to slow down the game for for everyone.

I'll gather up a few till I can't stand it anymore than break out cheat engine i guess...

Literally the worst thing I've seen added to the game in all these years. :(

You will be able to craft them soon with the next big update.

I've got 15 so far and haven't had to use one yet

With the addition of the radar I don't find it that bad - do a bit of a treasure hunt every now and then to stock up on chips. It's a nice change of pace. Without the radar, I don't think I'd like it though.

Yea, I don't really mind looking for it with the radar function on, plus it gives me more reason to go explore and enjoy the scenery instead of rushing to endgame. Now if only they could revamp driving features for a more enjoyable exploration experience....

a long time ago I suggested (many times before and after 1.0 release) that they rescale the resource costs of everything along with storage, to give more flexibility to future recipes, and exo chips were just a cheat way of doing it without doing it well. Basically that resource nuggets be about 1/4 the value and ~4 times more abundant. This would have allowed for better storage management options, more logical and complex recipes, more rhyme and reason to exploring on foot, and would also have allowed for a logical upgrade system (a small rover takes aluminum but a large rover takes alloy, shouldn't some copper be needed for smaller vehicles, even if not as an alloy? Lot's of recipes could make more sense in progression to next tiers with scaled down resources, but not in the curtrent system, things would get too expensive, except Exo chips are a thing bc reasons).

Take the backpack, why not have a way to upgrade air tank technology late game, so you can have longer off-tether air supply without using a slot for an aux-ox tank, but also the aux-ox tanks would improve as well so they stay viable as a way to get more air time on top of that. Same with some of the deform tool mods, the upgrade modules could still exist for the large scale upgrade, but you could have minor no-slot performance boosts as permanent upgrades. Also upgrades for walking speed, vehicle speed, fuel efficiency for thrusters, battery capacity, tether range, actual backpack capacity by adding new slots, all kinds of stuff that could cost bits and/or resources. But no, we got Exo chips for....reasons. I just don't understand the point, they've been doing these updates for a while, and they seem less meaningful each time, I'm really worried about the devs at this point, what are they working towards anymore?

For me it just added another step towards finishing the game, namely, getting sulfer gas and producing dynamite.

I use large rovers a lot, I like to have 2 on each planet, so I needed lots of exo chips.

I'm about 16 hours into this game, I have all the planets and gateways activated, all the quests done, large canisters full of resources and everything researched.

I do like all the changes and QOL improvements like the radar, the paver and the small RTG quest reward.

The nerf to astronium research was a bummer though. Prior to the nerf, I could start a new map and have RTGs up and running within 5 hours, now it takes a while longer.

One bug that I ran into that surprised me was getting stuck on invisible items, this has been around since early access. Even on this new game sometimes walking I got stuck, sometimes even driving I got stuck on some invisible thing.

Now if I could just join someones game I could get the last 3 achievements I need, its so annoying trying to make that happen.

I think EXO chips are fine. With most of the resources in the game being able to be either automated or rapidly collected from a single spot, it's kinda nice travelling around a planet collecting chips. That being said though, I did not enjoy it as much until I realized that they literally show up on radar pointing directly at the nearest chips. Looking for the chips blind, without the radar, was a bit tedious.

Honestly, by just playing you'll stumble upon more than you need easily, but with the radar it's even more easy and not a problem if you NEED them.

I stopped worrying about looking for them on purpose after I had a cache. I still blow them all up just to have the resource when I stumble on them and now I've got buttloads.

My bigger complaint is I can't store them like regular resources. They are not needed for much - once you got your rovers and shredders and such on each planet, it really didn't take anything to have a store of over 100 of them (more than you'll ever use)
