Furnace explosion

I put a melting furnace on a big platform, and it literally exploded... It's now unusable debris. Could this be a bug or is there a slim chance of it happening that has been implemented in the game?

that only happens if you try to smelt Hydrogen, Sulfur, Methane, dynamite or Hydrozine that can cause it to explode, according to the Trivia section of the official wiki https://astroneer.wiki.gg/wiki/Smelting_Furnace#Trivia. Was there anything on one of the 4 slots of the furnace before you hooked it up to power (as in have one that's turned on, and placed on a powered platform)? Alternatively, was there anything on the platform before you placed the furnace on it?

Probably something you had on the big platform. The smelter will automatically take things from attached storage, and if you have dynamite or hydrazine on there, boom!

It only takes things it can actually smelt, it will not grab hydrazine or dynamite or explosive gases by itself. I thought there might have been an auto arm or a resource canister in output mode involved, but after doing some experiments it seems that doesn't work either. I could not get an auto arm to place dynamite in a smelter, although it would happily place it in an open slot next to the smelter.

My guess is OP left out some important detail that would explain it, like having hydrazine on the smelter before they attached it.
