If it makes you so sad, then why do you activate your expensive hydrazine thruster without putting it on a rocket first?

It is a sandbox game. You can do all kinds of experiments, including combining thrusters with rovers and platforms, for example.

In early access, we would flip a standard platform over with 2 solid thrusters on it and ride it into space...sometimes it worked, sometimes it spazzed out, sometimes it catapaults you intot he side of a mountain really far away and you die on impact. Then you get into making dirt launch ramps for rocket rovers, then you make catch ramps and obstacles. I think you can still do all of these things in the current version. One fun thing was trying to crash the game with 4 people launching 4 separate rocket powered platforms to fly into a storm from different directions, then trying to build a last second catch ramp off the ground before you hit. There's a lot more, but hopefully this gets you started.

also you can stand on just a rocket engine and ride it into space. It's one of those things you know isn't going to work, but you know it's going to do something fun

i dont think it works anymore sadly, i mean, i tried with the backpack thruster and the planet now has a invisible ceilling, idk what would happen with a platform thruster nowadays

Part of the game physics, gravity increases with altitude. And no, I dont understand either, its just the way it is...
