System Era hands off their company to someone else, they release a $50 DLC. And so the story goes on.

Damn. This sucks. I'm backing up this update in case they screw it up.

Judging from the price tags attached, they appear to value their EXO Outfitters content much higher than the actual game. This is much deserved praise for SES's artists and animator who created that content. I only hope their other staff feel okay with it, especially their musician and composer who does get acknowledged with a separate soundtrack DLC, which is actually quite inexpensive in comparison.

Yeah... the price points for that customisation is nuts. They're nice, but $50+ nice? No, no i don't think so.

Yeah, it's good that the artists are getting their fair share, except they're not. It goes straight into the company. While this does go into their paychecks, they're not going to be paid any extra for their work.

Of course they are not getting direct compensation from DLC sales. I was talking about "praise" and "acknowledgement", not paychecks. Something can be valuable outside the context of money, you know.

Anyways, my comment was meant as a jab at the totally out of proportion pricing of those new DLCs. All SES staff should be considered equally important for the success of Astroneer. But if you link the prices of those DLCs to the importance of the people who worked on them, it becomes obviously ridiculous.

People go heads over heels and throw away their bank accounts for Cosmetics. That's why they're priced like this, because they know there's enough suckers out there that will lap up this kind of crap.

The Soundtrack only has so many songs, and it also gets far less additions to it. This is doubly true when I can go to somewhere like Youtube and simply download the songs without spending a dime.

This is just not understanding the market on Steam and Video Gaming at large these days.

Funny how some people lack the fundamental understanding of: Companies need money to pay for their expenses which wont stop just because you just bought a game.

I think I paid $15-$20 for this game back when it hit EA. $50 for a dlc seems a bit overly ambitious.

As long as its useless cosmetics it's "fine" and even then you can always just mod it in, but considering its to support the game I'm somewhat okay with it even though 50€ is imo waaaay to much

i love astroneer and i think they can do it

If there was gameplay locked behind these "DLCs" then I'd be not happy, but they are just bundles of cosmetics. And if you like using different suits and stuff in the game they are actually a good deal. You save money, and don't have to buy qbits. The only part of the store I find somewhat predatory are the qbits. It looks like you can't buy just what you need so you'll have some leftover, enticing you to buy more to get something else.

$50 cosmetic DLC for a $30 game is absolute insanity, and anyone who buys it is directly enabling these horrible practices.

By the same logic, anyone paying any amount for a cosmetic in a free-to-play game is even worse.

Fallout 76 wants to know your location.

No it's not. I 100% agree with Crawley here. For f2p games that's their sole income and usually they are providing a running server infrastructure for their games. With f2p you fully understand why it works the way it does. With Astroneer it's different: the shop itself isn't the problem, the pricing is: what is says is basically that the entire content of the game is less worth than a few silly skins and colors. It's just really stupid.
