Does the autoextractor not give infinite resources?
I swear it used to...no?

No. It's not infinite. You do gain 15 times more than if you were to dig by hand though.

How do you dig by hand in Astroneer? I only know about digging with the terrain tool, drills, and the auto extractor.

Digging with the terrain tool and rover drills is considered "digging by hand", as far as I'm aware.

So, then it's kind of useless? What's the point of setting up a whole mining operation if it's just gonna be gone in a few hours?

cause you get more? Do you want to go hunting for 5 patches of astromium, or just 1?

Note that the extraction range of the auto-extractor is smaller than most resource deposits. So when it registers no more ore to dig, there's probably still a lot more ore left, just out of range. Try moving the extractor around a bit, to let it pick up a new section of the deposit.

Auto-extractors in my experience do give infinite resources, but you have to re-position them every so now and then.

Oddly enough, re-positioning them in the *exact* same spot will somehow refresh the amount of raw material in the ground. Kind of hard to explain what I mean with text alone but I've gotten over 900 astronium from a single deposit now, using two auto-extractors, and I only had to pick both of them up and place them down (in the same spot!!) twice each.

This is the info i was looking for. I was setting up a mining operation but realized it's gonna have to be somewhat manual since you have to "refresh" the extractor once materials run out. i guess i'll just add like 4 extractors on this ammonium so i can perma fly lol

You don't need that many imo. One is more than enough after a few hours of letting it run. If it's a good enough spot (a good 30% green bar at least) can net you a full medium hydrazine gas canister in an hour.

They don't give infinite resources, but there is respawning of resources if they're not mined by digging them out. I don't know if it varies per resource though, my laterite deposit took a long time to respawn, was worried it might not respawn at all.

Even the fastest respawning node i've tried can't keep up with an Auto Extractor though, and the respawned minerals won't be seen by it until you reposition it.

I have tried restarting the game, and having half of the mined nodes respawned when i got back in though, and part of the area might not've been able to respawn because of the QT-RTGs on the ground, only 4 of them were working when connected through the vehicle, so i put them on the ground(all 8 works from the vehicle today though).
