When the game launches on Steam Early Access later this year it will be peer-to-peer hosting. You'll host your friends, or vice-versa. As the game develops we'd love to look at things like Dedicated Servers.
Okay if I host with my friend but if I go offline what is happend?
still my friend can play with my host while I go offline?

No you would have to keep the client (game) running.
If so then my pc is like server?

When you play the game and your playing peer to peer it would act like your PC is a server when playing. So as long you keep the game running your friends should be able to play.

I fully support the dedicated server option. I like hosting my games on my linux servers
I feel like dedicated servers could solve a lot of the inconsistancies between players in a game
I'm not sure if dedicated servers are really necessary(right now at least). Searching for players that are hosting (peer to peer) is the way to go for a game like this.
Opps wrong game sorry I mixed this up with Avorion hehe.

So far my experience in multiplayer has been rather annoying after leaving Terran, with all sorts of visual glitches that only happen for people who are the host. This game is still in pre-alpha which is why complaints about performance and such aren't fully valid in its current state, but the efficieny and consistancy benefits are very large with a dedicated server. I'm not sayin that the P2P is the wrong way, it's just not what I prefer in a game like this with such scale.

I personally won't play games which don't have user-hosted dedicated servers. :spazdunno:
I really hope you're honest about it being something you'll 'look into' as games with dedicated servers typically do far better than mere p2p games.

I would like the option to host a dedicated server on my spare PC, because whoever is hosting seems to get lag spikes and fps drops and just grand annoyance everytime it autosaves. There should be a way to do this
