Where to find ice chunks

So I've come back after quite a while, apparently at a good time with the new update. I'm on Glacio and am trying to do the shell scans. I know I have to use dynamite on ice chunks and looked online as to what they look like, but i haven't seen a single one. My train goes down 4 layers and still no sign of any. Are they rare or appear in certain biomes?

Yeah, they just look like large rocks but a bit different. Just walk around in the caves and start examining things. Even the first level. You should get a prompt saying something about ice chunks when you're looking at one. I don't recall them being that rare.

I had a ton of them near the top cavern levels. They look like blue pyramids slightly larger than research materials, but depending on the color of the soil there they might not stand out at all. You can dig them out and pile them up and blow them all up with one dynamite, managed to get 5 shells with just one dynamite like that.

It was a biome thing. I scoured the area under my base with no luck then decided to try digging under one of the cargo sites a ways away and found a ton.

You can find them on the surface too, but you can usually find tons of them in the upper cavern layers. Also if you don't have dynamite you can get them open using the plants that shoot the little balls at you. Those are mostly found on the surface though so you might need to carry them out of the caves if your spelunking to find them.
