Smelter doesn't initially pull resources automatically
I looked around a bit but did not see this mentioned.

Why doesn't the smelter auto load any available resource anymore? You have to manually put a resource on the smelter itself for it to start. It used to be that you could just set a medium storage on the platform and the smelter would automatically pull resources from it and smelt it all. Now you have to jump start it so to speak and it only loads one at a time after that. I realize that a smelter only does one resource at a time and it's not really that big of a deal, but still wonder what has happened to the smelter overall.

I believe I saw something mentioned about the type of platform you put the smelter on, but I have put it on almost every possible multi slot platform, but get the same results.

This change is not final as it should be further tuned in a later update. You just have to pull the 1st item to be smelted and the rest will pull automatically. And yes, it does dump them on the ground if there is no room to store them. Appears that it will not just put them back on the smelting slot.

Seems to be a bug, I noticed this too.

I noticed another bug (with the beta): it also drops the smelted material onto the ground in front of the smelter. I use Large Platform B's, so I can keep stuff organized on medium storage and this bug messes that all up.

It does open the possibility of making some kind of a chute system so you can move materials from one place to another by simply processing them.

Thanks for your answer

It would have been nice for them to have made one side the input and the other output, if you stored something that could be processed it does if the smelter is on.

what a lot of garbage, the thing doesn't pull anything, BUG! i hope devs are happy:
1. ppl liked true flat and playing with it
2. automation should have been implemented since we noticed that rovers manage to form an automated on the go factory
3. tethers are still awfull, and they didnt even let us keep colors.
4. any vehicle an their interaction is uterly ridiculous in this ERA of 2019
5. I AM SOOOOO SORY I BOUGHT GAME IN ALFA AND SUPPORTED THIS SCAMMERS!!! game was better till release.

I saw something interesting yesterday while playing. I had a storage full of titanite and a storage full of hematite. Put them both on the platform with the smelter. I wanted the titanite to start first so I put one on the smelter (far left slot). It immediately picked up a hematite (put it in the second from left slot), smelted it first then pulled all the rest of the hematite before it started smelting the first thing I put on the smelter. Titanite.

The issue may be that there is a dominant or primary side that the "machine" (smelter, atmospheric condenser.....) pulls from. It's the right side. In my case from yesterday, that's exactly what it did. It pulled from the right side first and placed the finished pieces also on the right side.

I wish they would just automate it again regardless of my observations from yesterday. All other machines are automated.

Automation Objects are on the Roadmap. Hopefully they will give us more control over production. With the new platforms that can hold several large storage each, it's getting a little crazy keeping everything oragnized .

I'd like to have a switch that directs everything produced to a storage of my chosing.

I abandoned the extra large platforms in favor of large-b and fill one side with compound and only let the smelter use the medium storage on the other side to pull from.
