Do RTG's take the fun out of the power part of the game?
The RTG's are nice, but they kind of make power generation in this game pointless. Maybe late game it gets harder, but even with the medium rover or my drill mods, I never have to worry about power because RTG keeps them almost full the whole time. Same for labs and furnaces. Sure, they might be a slow with only 3-4 RTG's, but I won't be back to my base for 20-30 minutes anyway.

Maybe if the power was more limiting, it wouldn't be as easy to just always dig a highway straight down to the core from your base because drill energy is not an issue.

This is my opinion after 20 hours. This might change as I get further, but 20 hours is a long time to not have to worry about power.

There is no challenge in this game to begin with. It's not just RTG but pretty much every mechanics. Taking into account that the game is like this since release, then according to devs it's not suppose to be challenging. The whole "survival" part is a joke.

aye, agreed, and without a doubt the portable oxygenator just trebles the issue.

the challenge becomes what you can do without, though lots of built in mechanics make it incredibly easy to go anywhere and do anything ignoring most forms of survival. slap a QT-RTG on a tractor and now you can go anywhere and do anything. if you wanted to go to the planet core all you'd have to do is dig down while standing near your tractor. you'll be at the core in no time and if you brought a packager with you, you can bundle it up and warp back to the surface.

Why even worry about standing next to the tractor when you can just attach it to you with a winch :D

And while you are at it, might as well attach 4 other medium platforms for storage, hehe. check this vid around 22 minute mark.

Even more impressive is that even the servers from Nvidia couldn't handle it as he plays it via Nvidia GeForce Now (which he stated in the next video).

You can do the same thing RTGs do by having a combination of solar, wind, and batteries. The alternative might be more bulky, but provides infinite, sustained power just the same.

It's true that RTGs take away the fun from the game, you know what I did? I haven't played with them anymore. I created challenges where I could not use them or limit them for example 1 for each open core etc ...

I've been playing for a long time now without creating and using tethers, also in many games I no longer create renewable sources apart from XL sources, which are also limited on the basis of unlocked cores.

But when I have to start using heavy automation, in that case I break the limits and play as I wish. Playing like this has given me loads of fun and hours of play, in addition to forging a certain self-discipline in respecting the commitments made with oneself. Doing is believing!
