is there in game chat now?

i havent played in about a year and i remember being annoyed with my friend that there was not an in game chat, we dont like using discord and didnt play much because the thought of having to shift + tab every few seconds to talk to them was dissuading.

I think steam has voice chat, but it's not hard to hit shift+tab to bring up steam text chat if the voice one doesn't work well. I don't know it's performance impact with Astroneer but it could be worth trying

they clearly said they don't like discord, and how is it hard to imagine they want to talk to each other live while they play? It's a game about running around and building things, voice chatting helps a lot with planning and organizing lol if you aren't going to read the whole post, then there is a big chance that what you say is not going to make sense

There is a mod that is super easy to install called AstroChat. I use it with my friends. Just google AstroChat astroneer and it'll come up in the first results from moddb.com. You just have to download the mod loader for Astroneer and the mod. It's very easy to setup, and there's instructions on the moddb page.
