The mining drill
Is there a point to this besides the other planets where you cant mine without the drill? I figured it would be faster than the hand held, but It takes 2-3 times as long to mine with it, I get that it drops the mined material directly onto a the onboard storage but it is faster for me to mine it by hand then place the items on the racks, am I missing something?

Not by my account. With the inhibitor mod equipped you can also pull almost all the ore out of the rock that's unbreakable without using a drill and yes it's much much faster.

Best case use for mining drill is to fill large quantities of canisters for the mineral extractor.

Well that is unfortunate, you would think that something you need to spend so much research on would actually be useful. Also what happened to attaching the drill to the front of the buggy and using it to drill into areas, that no longer happens ether.

I would argue that the *best* best case use for the drill is to fit it to a large rover alongside a mineral extractor so that canisters are not involved in the process at all.

Good point. I haven't actually done the extractor thing since the base expansion and the ability to put the extractor on a rover. I find it more rewarding to dig up my resources rather then duplicate them.

If you watch the 1.0 trailer this feature may be returning to the game.

you can use the mineral extractor without containers? by using a rover drill? how?

Build a large rover put a set, battery, solar and large storage on it, don't forget resorce you want to dup. Build a 2nd large rover, unpack a mineral extractor on it. Build a drill on it. Connect to 1st rover. Drive to Moutain. Duplicate lots of stuff.

those big round things up front are the drills? They look like batteries

What are those things next to the seat on the left? (or far side) on the first rover?
Battleseed Jun 15, 2018 @ 9:23pm
Yes those are batteries on the front and left of the seat is a few small solar gens plugged in to a med storage.

The drill is at the back, attached to the crane

so where's the drill? wouldn't it be up front?

The drill is on the Crane which is the leftmost thing

This isn't the most efficient method but there's quite a few scenarios it works well

The crane feeds directly to the extractor. Doesn't matter where you attach the batteries.

Having run both canister version and non, the non is WAY more efficient.

nice! I love driving my drill/extractor truck to the top of mountains and just digging and extracting (usually for lithium) until the mountain is gone!
