Plant grows research
Well I got a plant right next to my base that grows research points. Useful at the beginning and as an experiment I planted one "item" in the ground just to see if it would grow....it didn't. Maybe in the future we can grown research as any farmer does.

iirc it'll stay growing as long as you don't dig it up ;) (I read that in the patch notes).

I have 3 close to my base and two more a little distance away (12-15 nodes). They re-grow research way to rapidly as I can just run from one to another in a large circle and repeat for unlimited research. I'm getting about 150 - 200 research per circuit.

There may well be agriculture at some point, but the research trees are intended to be a decision between lots of points now, or a slow trickle of points over time. If you could make more of them that decision is lost, because planting an ever-growing copse of the things outside your base becomes the obvious right choice.

wished mine were anywhere remotely close to base!

As long as you leave them planted you can have your cake and eat it, you can have the big research underneath and it will continue to grow the instant bytes. But moving them will prevent those bytes respawning.

I wonder how many research trees there are on each planet?

I found one, but its not close to my base like some are lucky to have them closer.

I found a small forest of both trees with research and the new harvestables a minute or two away from base, I quickly threw together a couple of platforms and set up a research machine, then just walked from plant to plant picking up 10-100 bytes per plant whilst the researcher was working away, I very quickly ended up with 11k bytes, those harvestables respawn really quickly and the plants have between 1- 5 of them so I was pretty constantly able to harvest.

I tried putting them into the research machine but they wouldn't accept... on some of them you just research them without the machine but only yields 10-18 points each and one tree has 3 nodes that I can pluck off at a time.
