Achievement didn't unlock

Putting in the resource in the Gateway Engine is what activates it, right? Because I did that on the first planet ages ago, but I never got the achievement. I am curious - if I start a new game, will the skin be unlocked in all games or only the new one? I can't think of any other way to unlock the achievement either than to hope it works in a new game.

Also to check: do you only need to activate one gateway to get to the engine? I unlocked all in this game, but if I have to start from scratch just for this achievement, I'd want to complete as simply as possible. ;)

IIRC it's not so much putting in the correct resources, but using the item you get from the resources, on the flip-side of the engine that should unlock the achievement. It doesn't always unlock the palette right away when you get the achievement either - I've had times I had to save and reload the game for it to realise I met the requirements (mind you this was a few years ago now). It could also be that you have to go as far as the satellite and plug the item in there, but I was pretty sure it's supposed to unlock at the planet upon activating the core. I also think you might be able to unlock the engine multiple times in a game, since you can print as many keys as you have resources for. Might be worth trying before starting a new game entirely.

What I can answer with more certainty, however, is that you only need to activate one gateway on a planet/moon in order to be able to access the engine of said planet. . Also, once you have a palette unlocked it's available in all games, not just new ones.

I did that too right off the bat. On the mission to solve all the planets, it counts the number there. I have also put one in the satellite as I wondered if that was what counts as solved, still locked. I have two spare keys, as I had one printed to collect, and then I tried to print and re-do, but...no where to plug it in I could see. Correct me if I'm wrong.

But, thank you, at least your other two answers means I won't have to get too tedious to re-do the first planet. Not thrilled, but at least I can unlock everything for my main game.
