You would be just as exasperated as I am if you were ever as unprepared as I was. All I had was one package of tethers and the starting oxygenator you get at the start of the game. And to make it all worse, my thruster burnt out with no replacement prepared.
There was no compound anywhere near my landing site. I began digging, running as far as I could from my tether system to see if I can spot anything. I eventually found some crash sites that had some tether packs which I used to expand my search radius even further. I eventually found one patch at the very top of a mountain next the crater I landed in. And that was just the start of the headache.
I had to then begin the process to manufacture the thruster. Which meant that I had to build a printer, then a bigger printer to build a furnace, mine for aluminum component and ammonium, and uproot the local flora to fuel the generators that powered it all.
What was meant to be a simple landing, resource gathering, and take off turned into an hour and a half quest for survival.
Freshly landed, came out from shuttle and died immediately. All volatile gasses blew up and hours of work wasted. Sometimes RNG hates with passion.
Find a resin location. Relocate your shuttle by point and drag (using the force) next to the resin. Your shuttle supplies you with infinite oxygen. Mine resin and craft the resin into oxygen filters. You use these oxygen filter to explore larger areas. Especially the high snow/ice dunes on Glacio have compound and resin on top, which can be used to craft more oxygen filters and mine a few compound. Possibly relocate your shuttle into a red crater and print a small printer, medium printer, platform and smelter. Dig a slope down. The first underground layer does contain Laterite to make aluminium bars. It also contains more resin for oxygen filters. Most Glacio snow/ice mountain/dunes also have ammonium. Combine the aluminium and ammonium to build solid thruster to get home. If you cannot find ammonium closeby, the alternative is to build a soil centrifuge with the aluminium in which you can either generate more compound for tether of generate an ammonium for the thruster.
That said, random being random, it could be possible to get stuck in such a way that you can't get to those resources.
