ASTRONEER
Free to Play
I just came back today to this game. I left around 6 months after this game officially launched. I get it that it's an old game and all but I just saw the store page.
Just make the game free to play at this point, it's an old game. I'm sure going free to play will bring in more players-customers to your in-game store.

You can easily connect the Qbit amount with the Dollar amount using simple math and eye skills, I don't see how this is hard. Even for people with issues. I don't see anything pushing me to spend more. I buy a set amount of Qbits, buy as much as I can with that, then continue on my way.
That's the whole idea, by adding an extra step, people are less likely to know the actual pricing and again, i feel like a broken record by repeating myself, but some of the things are priced so you'd have to buy a bigger pack of premium currency than you would have if you could buy cheaper. You don't sound like a person who either suffers from compulsive buying, fomo (Fear of missing out) or able to put yourself in other people's shoes who do suffer from it. Simple dlc without the premium currency would be more upfront with the pricing and less scummy.
Sure it would. But we don't have that do we? The devs obviously aren't going to change it, so just stick with what you have.

Would you say the same thing if they added lootboxes or subscription fees?

I'd quit the game if they added that. It signifies money-hungry devs.

1: why not just stick with what you have if the devs obviously aren't going to change it?
2: That's how i see introducing f2p models into premium games. It's nothing but greed.

but you know WHY they are doing it this way? to subvert Steam's cut into their sales of items off their shop. i'd have to read into it more but i think using steam wallet to buy a games in game currency doesn't incur the steam's 30% cut on sales. unless they buy it off the store page.
Now that's a very interesting and worrying point that shouldn't be lost in the fans vs detractors war. If Steam is arranged financially to drive all games in that direction then they've built a ratchet that will turn it into the Android play store over time and Astroneer is a canary in this coal mine.

it'd be gaming in general. but the real canary was fortnite and apple store, fortnite did basically the same thing and is a much larger game in terms of micro trans power. platform owner vs publisher war is a thing we know of, but this brought it to light.

so when i see stuff like this, i start to question the other whys but not the obvious whys, i've been doing this a lot more lately in many aspects of life and learning a lot more about things i didnt fully understand. i encourage more people to do it. it can be difficult but its rewarding in the end, a better understanding of games market economy helps develop a better informed opinion.

all that aside, i still like astroneer for what it is, happy with my purchase till the devs do something to break it for now. xD.

It does and it is not free to play.

To the OP: Which game was at first a game you had to pay for to play it and later became free to play with the same content?
To the OP: Which game was at first a game you had to pay to play without mtx, later added mtx and later became free to play with the same content?

Fixed it for ya buddy
Did you ever answer the question instead of twisting some words around?

i'll add one, TEAM FORTRESS 2

granted they added more content later, and threw in the cash shop, but every publisher is guilty of having a game they control go free to play to some degree. this is a smaller studio though compared to the giants so again, i doubt this ever will go free to play legitimately.

F2P killed WildStar, and TERA isn't far behind.

Nobody wants free games packed with subversive, manipulative mechanics designed to funnel the player towards obscene microtransactions.

You wanted some examples of games that went that way, there are your games.
Want some "better" games?
For Honor
StarCraft 2
Star Wars: The Old Republic
"Fortnite" (considering was a different game when it first came out)

Btw, Carbine killed WildStar, much before F2P... sadly... i did played since day1 before all the microtransaction. ALOT. Best MMORPG ever made, so sad it got shutdown :(

Imagine trying to use examples from the absolute worst (both morally and ethically) of the industry in an argument like this lmao.
Epic Games does have good games in the store, you cant strike down Epic Games for Fortnite. EA is pretty money hungry though, ♥♥♥♥ EA
