Storage sensor help required

I've built a power station set up with a centrifuge, smelters and medium generators. In between each step there's auto arms and pairs of medium resource canisters. I can't quite get it to be fully automated however... I got some storage sensors and hooked them up between the pairs of canisters but when one is full or empty it doesn't do anything? I'm expecting it to switch between input and output modes? Have I misunderstood how storage sensors work?? Thanks.

Ok, update, I found that it wasn't possible to fully automate it but I've upgraded it a lot and used button repeaters to start the centrifuge and switch canisters over. Now that I have the radioisotope thing the carbon power station is kinda redundant but it is a nice way to mass produce carbon. Combined with mass produced Sulphur from Calidor I can make a ton of dynamite lol.

One last midnight on YT provides helpful tutorial videos for astroneer including the new buttons and shows examples of storage sensor set ups in action. You can watch a few of those in the meantime until you get more responses to this post.

Thought I'd post a second update. The part I couldn't get to automate was the centrifuge, but that one last midnight guy had a method of making a "clock" which I copied using a large platform, a medium storage, a medium canister (with 8x compound) and a storage sensor. This sent out a signal periodically to a button repeater that in turn sent a signal to the centrifuge which, if ready to start, would start. Video below at 8 minutes shows the clock I used, but I actually made it a bit simpler than shown. Hope this helps someone else!
