Why are people so excited about the hydrazine thruster?
The disposable one is good for a full round trip, and is easy to make. Hydrazine takes many more steps, and doesn't last much longer. And the disposable ones scrap pretty well when used up. So why?

Hydrazine doesn't take more steps. You just need 2 ammonium and Hydrogen and you ge Hydrazine. Ammonium is easy to find and you can get Hydrogen from the atmosphere. Also you can attatch 3 Hydrazine to your thuster so the chance of getting stranded is almost zero. You can easily hop from planet to planet without changing the thuster.

Ah, 3 attachment points does sound helpful - does that mean about 12 "thrust"s to go empty, so one can is the same as one disposable thruster?

And you're right about the hydrazine - two ammonium instead one, but completely doable from just soil. I was confusing it with Graphene, which you make from it.

i dont remember the exact number of trips, or jumps, but it is definitely worthwhile, especially once you are running to other planets for gas pickups a lot. of course, the silo storage helps with that a lot too

For some reason I remember 5 trips on one can of hydrazine, but that might have been before and they've changed it since. I liked the one that you could fill up with a bunch and then still have some attached to the side. Hydrazine thruster is the way to go, but not essential, just so much easier if you're running back and forth.

Yeah what Wolfgang said and plus you can have extras on the ship stored. I always have the 3 slots on the thruster and then like 4 to 8 hydrazine backed up on ship.

I'm glad I read this thread....I"m pretty "far" into the game (whatever that means, I have everything unlocked)....and I've never built one of these. I didn't realize there was "slots"...I thought it was just a thruster with double the usage (8 "hops" instead of 4) so I never bothered. This actually sounds worth it :)

Yes, I tried it out. Since you get 8 thrusts per hydrazine, you are saving 2 aluminum at the cost of a hydrogen (which is free on Sylva). And because it has slots, you always have lots of warning when you need to refuel. Definitely worth it :)
