Best way to get scrap?
I saw a youtuber with like 100 scrap at his base and am wondering the best way to collect it in any material amount. His base was on Sylva, so I assume he brought it back piece by piece with a tractor and trailer or medium rover train?

I tried to build a mobile scrap base on a medium rover, but it seemed kind of useless as the terrain was a pain in the ass and most of the ♥♥♥♥ I wanted to scrap said it was too large for the salvage process anyways?

Do some people take out a large rover with a large shredder?

Just seems like a lot of work, requiring late game resources, when it would likely be easier to fly to a planet that has what you need, and bring it back...

There was a "scrap bug" for small batteries (fixed just before I started playing) that allowed you to "grab" the same small battery out of the grinder when it started. You then just grind it again and again. Probably how he got that much scrap.

There is a much more grindy (ha, ha) method available now with packers. Not really a bug or exploit as it takes a lot of standing there, grinding packers, trading scrap for graphite, making packers, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat. Basically you can grind up the debris, expended solid boosters, unneeded small solar/wind/generators, found small cells, etc.

I find scrap more of a convenience. Need ONE titanium? ONE lithium? Well just send off for it!

Those just sound like exploits.

I mean a legitimate, designed in game way to get scrap.

There is nothing exploity about standing there grinding away. You are trading labor for materials. Just like you can trade materials (like glass or ceramic) for research (300 bits each). But you won't do much of that grinding as it is dead boring. Still you can collect other materials, print objects, and grind them instead. No trading required.

Collecting scrap adds some variation to the game, so I think it is worth it from an entertainment point of view.

I package up broken medium generators and old solid fuel boosters . On my tractor and trailer x3, I usually carry 4 packagers and the medium grinder for small stuff - broken connectors and medium solar panels are satisfying to grind, the broken tether are over too quick.

I just wish I could cut up and grind the tables/platforms.

Probably with the promised large grinder! Bet it takes some exotic materials. Diamond and nanocarbon perhaps?

i mean if you got a lot of soil and extra compound you can craft things out of the compound and scrap those. effectively turning compound into anything.

beyond that, just bringing a large rover with a medium battery, and either a wind turbine or a medium generator, with 3 large storages on it with no mediums (maybe 1 for carbon) and just roam the world and load up, both above and underground. broken medium generators generate like 1.5 scrap or something like that, they are really good at making lots of scrap. its also viable to bring a medium scrapper with you, to scrap some of the small stuff lying around the site. its not all that worth it in the end though.

vehicle with a large shredder on there with some storage and drive around

Put a shredder on a large rover and drive around throwing junk into it.

That was absolutely an exploit. Scrap is not difficult to get legitimately, but it takes more effort
than playing small battery clicker for infinite resources without having to do any real work.

Yea now we actually have to make a ton of small batteries and still scrap them for 2x scrap each. Large shuttle full of lithium = Scrap mountain!

yeah i mean once you got 3 or 4 medium batteries per planetary base, and maybe 8 smalls for output per planet, lithium just becomes this substance used to make scrap xP.
THIS IS HOW I BROKE THE GAME SO READ PLEASE
1: use a soil centrefuge (if your lazy or have too many cans and just can like me) and get resin
2: medium storage
3: large shredder it
4: $crap
But if you use the centrifuge to get lithium that also works just not as good as this one getting 4-5 scrap per 2 cans and 10 seconds with power
Or 3-5 if I miscounted

You can edit your posts bro, no need to keep adding more of them. But you can't get lithium from the centrifuge, graphite though now that's one way trip to too much scrap.

soil -> graphite -> packagers -> shred -> trade for more graphite -> (packagers -> shred -> trade)

graphite costs 0.5 scrap
packager is worth 0.75 scrap

1 scrap = 2 graphite = 2 packagers == 1.5 scrap
2 scrap = 4 graphite = 4 packagers == 3 scrap
4 scrap = 8 graphite = 8 packagers == 6 scrap

You can very quickly build a large amount of scrap.
