No copper in my world?
I've started a new world and have played for hours, and I still can't find any of the raw copper. I've found resin, compound, quartz, raw aluminum, raw zinc, but absolutely no raw copper. My base is basically running on a bunch of wind turbines, which I find to be unreliable. I recently found a medium solar panel out in the world, but that alone doesn't produce enough power for my needs.

Find the nearest mountain, climb it a little bit, and look around. You'll find enough copper.

At the beginning, I found much of my early copper on the surface of the mountains on Sylva. There is also a relatively rare chance of finding copper in the deeper parts of the planet, at least in my experience. TBH, early game much of my non-generator power comes from the random wrecks I find on the surface.

If that still doesn't settle nicely with you, then give another planet a try perhaps. The game tells you which planets have what resources (other than quartz, laterite, and other "common" materials")

Hope this helps.

Mountains. Go there, where the ground mines slower.

On Sylva (Terran) before 1.0 Release, it was in the caves. It's on the side of the mountains now.

It's in caves, too. In my current game I've found almost all mine underground. It seems different cave levels focus on different resources. The RNG is working in my favor this time

RTGs are the best source of power.

Plus you'll find tons and tons of copper in the Mushroom biomes.

Here is where to go for various important metals and gasses:

Note: Every planet seems to have a smattering of other things if you look hard enough, I'm just listing the material you will find in gob smacking amounts. Basically the main reason to go to that planet.

Sylva
- Lateralite - underground
- Malachite - in mountains
- Sphalerite - underground
- Ammonium - in forests
- Graphite - semi rare, usually in and around mountains though
- Clay - semi rare, usualy just out in the open
- Nitrogen - gas extractor
- hydrogen - gas extractor

Desolo
- Woframite

Calidor
- tons and tons of malachite underground
- some Woframite above ground
- sulphur gas

Glacio -
-Iron - everywhere
-Titanite - underground
- graphite - above ground
- argon - gas extractor

Vesania
- Lithium underground

Atrox
- helium - gas extractor

I've only found Iron on Glacio while on the surface. Never found iron underground so far.

Novus has it underground i think its only above ground on glacio with a chance of it bing spawned underground. so your more likely to find it on the surface.

I've found it everywhere, maybe its just RND, but its a nuisance mineral on that planet for me. I can't throw a rock without hitting massive spawns of iron.

I skipped over the desert planet at this time so Copper has been a real pain to get as none of the mountain deposits have been very large and it's annoying to try and drive up onto mountains.

Is it just me or does Ammonia only spawn on the surface and never seems to be any deposits that run underground? It wasn't until Glacio that I finally started finding large Ammonia deposits that had to be dug out like normal. I don't mean like underground in caves, but rather ones that require you do dig into the ground a bit to get everything.

I have found ammonium not far from the core on every planet, and in massive spawns.

ammonium can be acquired with the centrifuge.
