Tethers not working

IDK if i'm just dumb or what, but i place down my tethers next to my base and they never connect which i'm finding quite frustrating.

You need oxygen generator

As SubRosa said, for tethers to connect to source, the source must be fed by Oxygen Generator (first thing from small printer).
You dont have to have a shuttle or the safehouse, you can plant oxygen generator on any two-slot for it to connect.

Also you can use rovers as oxygen source (which is OP imo).

did you unpack the starter kit from the launchpad?
then you can place a oxygen generator in your habbitat..
because that whas what i needed to do when i had the same problem..

A very glaringly obvious omission from the tutorial was to mention the oxygenator and how it works.

Remarkable given that the tutorial was redone for the launch of the game.
