I dont know what buttons to press to make it work. I press left ctrl and left click but nothing happens.

Make sure that the alignment tool is in one of your multitool slots. It will make a power sound and show a green light when you attach it. Then, you hold down Left-CTRL to flatten, or Left-ALT to raise a column straight up. If you raise a column straight up, you can Left-CTRL without the mod installed to get a vertical flat wall from one of the vertices of the column you raised. If you just excavate without the CTRL/ALT, you can get some interesting straight holes. You will have to play with it to get the feel, but it was incredibly useful before the 1.0 release. Haven't had a chance to use it since 1.0, but will soon.

I wished the Alignment Flatten-Mod would always keep the level to the planet core unfortunatly as long as you press CTRL and don't release it, it continues the flat-angle from the starting point even when you (the char) moves. The normal Flatten Tool does that already so why does the Alignment Mod not what it is supposed to do.

I really need this adjustment so that I can escape the Planet Curvature Problem / Tilting surfaces problem.

EDIT: Next thing we need is a Core-Aligned 30° Ramp, which adjusts the angle when you move to keep the 30° to the core. Needed for the ramp to the core.

The hole planet curvature problematic can be really good seen on Barren/Desolate because it's so small. If you just flatten straight 100 meter further you start wondering why you walk up not down.

I agree that the alignment mod should keep alignment angle level to the planet's core while you're holding down control. I researched and crafted it with the expectation that it would (based on the descriptions I could find) and was disappointed to see that it functioned just like the regular flatten tool in that regard. =(

I guess I'm not quite sure what it is you folks think the alignment mod is supposed to be doing, but in any case, its purpose is to create a surface that follows the curvature of the planet, i.e. it is "aligned" to the gravitational center of the planet. If you want a flat surface that does not curve at all, you should just use the normal flatten mode without the alignment mod.

And it has a secondary purpose, which is to create a wall that is vertically aligned with the center of the planet, making it great for building nice flat walls for your base.

Myself, I like to use it because I like everything on my base to be on a nice flat surface, but I don't want huge drop-offs at the edges, so using the alignment mod to flatten the ground makes the floor functionally flat but still with enough curve that it blends with the rest of the terrain at the edges, so there aren't huge drop-offs surrounding my base.

Also, I haven't tried it yet in the 1.0 release, so it is also possible that it isn't working right, I suppose... But that is what it is supposed to do when it is working normally.

There is a youruber that made an awesome tutorial even how to make stairs perfectly

The problem is, it doesn't stay aligned while you're using it. At least not for me. It creates perfectly flat surfaces just like the flatten tool. Maybe a bug?

Guess ill try it after this quick update.

Yes the Tool aligns to the grav-center, but only at the beginning if you move you get out of alignment. It than behaves exactly like the normal flatten tool.

What we need is the Aligned Flatten Mod Tool to make curved surfaces along the same height above the core. If I need normal flat surfaces I can use the normal flat tool, but I need the Alignment Mod to continue adjusting itself as it (or better the char) moves, which it does not.

And for what? So I can make surfaces which do not start tilting the further away from the start you get. Similar to the cave floor levels you now find in the planets. They are exactly that, flat surfaces around the core, so a sphere, but normally you don't see that especially on larger planets.

It does not work for me. I put the alignment mod ( the little square thing) on a slot on the gun and press left ctrl and try left clicking but all I get is the X
Stonebriar Feb 8, 2019 @ 7:37pm
Ok, I see when I made the wide mode the base of the square turned green. So why wont the alignment mod turn green?

That's the thing, it isn't a flatten mod. I wish there WAS a flatten mod that works the way you describe.

You need a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ canister to do it all. Thread done.

Never played before the 1.0 release but I just did a triangular path, about as long as 5 or so large rovers to a side. Used the alignment tool and when I came back to my starting point I was about a character;s shoulder height higher.
