Look above ground. On Sylva there's usually a patch in the hilly forested areas.

Then your only other option is probably the soil centrifuge or the more expensive trade platform + shredder.

its not easy to find but its out there.

i usually just see one or two bits showing above ground, but htere are usually patches near the base of mountains

Soil centrifuge if I remember takes 1 ammonium to start it and I can’t make trade platform cause my planet has no iron that’s why I need to leave

They changed the way the centrifuge works. You just need soil cans now. Fill the machine, go into the interface and choose the product you'd like to make.

Also, this resource should be abundant at cave levels 3 or 4 now. Worlds are random so your mileage will vary I suppose.

Im not aware of cave leves? all i know is at the depth im at i find tons of alluminum and zinc and sometimes quartz. also i didnt know centrifuges where changed im used to the ones where you needed one of the item.

@OP Keep going down. You'll know you've gone far enough because you'll get a big surprise. There are 5-6 distinct "layers" now underground.

Ammonium is on the surface of most planets. It's uncommon, but I've found it on Sylva, Desolo, and Calidor's surface.

If they can't find the a component for a thruster then leaving the planet isn't really an option.

Best bet is the centrifuge to start until you find some and can actually see what it looks like in the world.

Ideally the astropedia would show the resources in both forms (gathered and "wild") and give relevant info with each one but its more like a fast food menu than anything close to a "pedia"

That's a good point. It looks very much like the generic organic resource in ochre rather than green, and on the surface you could easily look past it as just another random plant.

I looked up what it looked like and never noticed any ended up using centrifuge. then flew to the moon and got a ton more there. And also to the guy that said i probably need it for the thruster so i cant just planet hop, You are correct. Thanks for the help everyone

The centrifuge wont allow me to make ammonium so that's not an option it seems
