I dunno how to do what you are talking about tho... I never really used extenders even before in EA, so I'm not sure how they used to do... But this seems to be how they work now. Still seem pretty useless to me.... I guess maybe you could use them in an emergency if you ran out of power on your rover or something and couldn't make it to a cable to charge it, but I tend to use batteries anyway, so I'd just swap out a battery and come back with a full one. Anyway, that's all beside the point... Far as I know, you just gotta hold down the button to get one to pop off the stack, maybe it will work when it is on the backpack too, so you might try it that way... Or put it on the active slot of the backpack, the ones in the top left and right, because tethers will pop off if you activate those slots with a stack of tethers attached to them, just like they do if you use the normal dedicated tether button... So I figure that might work for extenders too maybe?
Then piss around for 3 hours trying to get it into the right position. Don't forget to use c/v to turn it..
Have you tried the thing I said before, putting it in the activated slots of your backpack? I haven't tried it myself, but it just seems like it should work that way, since tethers will work from there too, and they are a stacked item like extenders...
'Activated slots'?
I have my tethers just on my backpack and they work with the T button (I'm using a keyboard). They do this from any location on my pack; they don't need to be in any specific location to work. I haven't seen any active slots on my backpack; which ones are those?
That's how they worked in ea, but they don't now. Have to drop the pack on ground and then activate one at a time from it and use that individual item, it's very tedious making paths now down ramps etc..
I mean the ones on the top left and right, like where you would put a worklight or other device, you get what I mean? Well,if you put a stack of tethers in one of those slots, then use the button for that slot (C for the left one, V for the right one) it will drop a tether just like it does if you press T. Well, I was just thinking that extenders might do the same thing if you put them in one of those slots, you see what I mean?
The slots are kinda on the left and right side, near the top of your backpack but they don't face to the rear like the normal slots do, they are facing to the side, and they flip upwards when you put an item on one. If you put a light in one, you can press the button for the slot and turn the light on and off, or any other small device that can be turned on and off, like a generator.
Well, ok then.. It was worth a try, seemed logical at least. I mean, I've always kinda thought they were sorta worthless anyway, I never had any reason to use them in my games during EA, though now they have those research pod thingys that you need to add power to in order to open them, so they actually seem more useful now than they ever were before...
But still, they don't seem terribly useful to me even with that in mind. I would just drive a rover with a battery up to the pod thingy then connect the power line to it from the rover... Maybe an extender might be needed if I couldn't get close enough with the rover... other than that, I can't think of any reason to use one, at least not the way that I've been playing. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, I dunno lol.
Try using them from the ground, I've done it that way too... Drop the stack on the ground, hover over it and hold the use button. Someone in another thread said they got them to work from the backpack too, by putting them in the top slots (the ones I mentioned previously here) but not the way I said... You still have to hover over them and hold the button, but you don't have to take out your backpack to do it that way...
EDIT: It DOES work!
I tried putting the extenders on those top connection points to the left and right (I used the top left one) and pressing C placed one down for me. So putting them in those locations DOES seem to work for dispensing extenders. Thanks to Voidbeast for the suggestion.
My hands were free. I had the extenders equipped in the left shoulder slot; the one that swings upward when you equip something to it. Pressing C makes whatever is in that slot work, in this case dispensing the extenders. V seems to work for the right shoulder slot, which I have my light equipped to. Hope this helps.
