FPS drop seems to be a problem
I was going to buy the game. Looked at some online streams. Some of them having 9-15 fps with their high end computers. This game doesn't look like it's out of early access. Is there any workaround for this? For example in Subnautica you were able to fix fps drop by deleting cache files.

Have you read his post? He is worried because he watched people streaming the game and some of them had 9-15 fps even though they had high end computers and linked a clip where you can see someone having pretty low fps.

Read his specs though he has top tier no need to worry

Game Maxed out 1080p .... (i would get 144 fps ... but i limited to 60 because monitor)
Daeburon Feb 6, 2019 @ 8:44am
remember people streaming are also getting less FPS just because they are streaming.

I can report im getting 85 FPS, settings cranked up to ultra. (edit, playing at 1080p)

i6700k 4.0 Ghz, 16GB ram, GTX 970, SSD.

anyways, remember Steam has a sensible return policy. you can buy the game, install, try it out. I think the limit is 2 hours. you should know within 1 minute if the FPS on your rig is good or not. if you get terrible fps for some reason, you can just return it and get a refund.

+ the fact i cannot see whats happening on a Streamers PC

The Last Time i encountered something like that .... was a Windows Update by the Streamer running in Backround, he did not even know off ...

an I9 9900k
+ 2080ti ... should be completly Overkill for Astroneer in 1080p (and even 4k should run flawlessly)

Not to discount what people may or may not be seeing on their end, but I can safely say that specs are only one third of the equation a lot of the time. With the games own internal optimization and driver version being the other two thirds.

The holy trifecta :)

Everyone gets high fps at start. I am talking about the "FPS drop" which happens when you make big changes to the world map.

The person i linked has a seperate streaming computer. So streaming has no effect to the performance.

Terraforming can destroy the fps. Steam only gives 2 hours playtime before refund. But fps drop will start after a few days of digging around.

Let's just skip the over the fact that recording or streaming can lead to a drop in performance, or the clips shown could have other issues with them, such as poor bandwidth, dropped frames, Twitch's servers having problems and so on. Never rely on Youtube or Twitch for performance indicators solely from the video. I cannot say anything more on this as I've not personally seen the clips OP is talking about, naturally.

Assuming said streamer also doesn't have connection problems with Twitch. Which, I'm sorry to say, there has been numerous streamers I know of mentioning they're getting a lot of dropped frames recently. I know one personal case is purely down to Comcast being...well Comcast, but the rest do not have those issues. Now that we got that out of the way...

*watches clip*

Ah. Got it.

Note the end. See how it "jumps" back up? That's suggesting there's an issue with the terrain deforming. Now, given how annoyed he is, I'm guessing he's deep. So, there's your answer. I haven't played the "release build" myself yet, but the only thing I can add is that there's new terrain tech that was demo'd in a previous build which could be causing this, or it's the particle effects. There's nothing in your hardware stats that suggests you should have a problem, but given how you're responding to people posting in the thread, it's clear that wasn't why you came to the thread to here.

The answer is simple when how "concerned" you are, sadly. Avoid the game for a month or so, and keep an eye on the news or patch notes. If this is what I'm guessing it is, then hopefully the developers can nail it down and fix it. Outside of that, it's clear you won't be convinced.

RE the "refund" option. Your reminder, lads, that the limits of two hours or 14 days only applies to the automatic, no questions asked refund. You can still request one, however it will be down to convincing a rep that you're entitled to one. So long as you can show you've at least attempted to solve this issue with the developer and you're refunding it as a last resort, then I doubt there'd be an issue, but of course that's down to you, your wallet and how you feel about the game.

TL:DR? Leave it for a bit, then come back later and see if it's improved. I cannot see in to the future.

i7-5930k GTX 980Ti 16GB ram

I get 120 FPS on ultra but this dips as I expand my base, terraform and spam too many actions(running, clicking on stuff and jumping into the buggy whilst looking around).

You shouldn’t feel worried about performance with your specs OP, but I am of the opinion that this game could definitely do with some further optimization.

Edit: read through the rest of the comments.
Will update findings after doing a lot of terraforming ;)
