What's even the point of the Medium Canister?

Like, seriously. It doesn't automatically refill the machine when placed on the same platform as a Soil Centrifuge, it can't hold anything but soil, which you must MANUALLY extract... The rest of the machines and devices automate the transfer of resources so long as there's free storage space. Why doesn't the Medium Canister? Why can't it be used to store large amounts of Hydrazine? It would be super useful to carry a big tank of jetpack fuel on my rover while exploring underground, and much more convenient for moving lots of hydrazine than before... What's the deal, here!?

I do agree. Why not create a tank for any kind of storage, anything you can place in a canister why not have a large storage container for it.

Without med canister the paver wont work.

With the canisters the paver can create bridges, fill in holes, build sky roads, etc.

It does autofill when you place a few small canisters for the soil centrifuge.
Also the medium canister can store soil of 16 small canisters.

I have a medium canister and small canister on the same platform as the soil centrifuge. It automatically fills up the small canister whenever I'm making something, and I just swap out medium canisters when one gets low.

Because you can put 2 of them on the same platform in 2 different switch positions and watch a small canister bounce back and forth indefinitely? No? Just me?

OK, sure, but why doesn't the Medium canister automatically fill the centrifuge? Seems like a simple interaction that would save a lot of time, to me.

Because the medium canister is a tier 2 item while a small canister a tier 1 item is. And to fill the centrifuge you need a tier 1 canister aka the small canister.

It automates with the correct object that fills it, like every other device. The centrifuge doesn't interface with the medium canister.

For the medium canister to fill the soil centrifuge, the soil centrifuge would need a tier 2 item input slot.

It works remarkably well, if you place the medium canister on one side of a type B platform, soil centrifuge in he middle, and a medium storage layed on flat on the other side. With a few small canisters connected to the medium storage, all you have to do is connect one to the soil centrifuge, and it is pretty much automated after that, until the medium canister is depleted.

It will keep refilling. IMO this is so much better than having dozens and dozens of small canisters.

"which you must MANUALLY extract" Wrong, press F to enable output, place it on the same platform as a soil centrifuge, and give it 1 small canister. It will automatically unload the small canister and refill the small canister between the centrifuge and the medium canister.
