You can just make 1 base at the poles and enjoy the 24/7 sun there, though.
imo I wouldn't.. not worth the effort.
The guy asks a simple question, and you respond with sarcasm, judgement, and condescension. For no reason. Holding the opinion that it's a total waste of time and probably pointless in the long run is fine; saying that by way of being an insufferable elitist prick about it is not. And I actually agree with you on this, but I've noticed that you, particularly, stand out as just a snotbag all over these forums.
Last time I saw something about this, you got into a huge argument with someone who did nothing but make a base at the pole of a planet for constant solar power...and called it an exploit, bringing to bear all the derisive snobbery you could. Save the derision for people who actually deserve it, rather than act like a miserable wretch almost all the time.
As far as OP goes, I find it extremely doubtful it would work. The render distance alone on this game looks tiny, and from looking at youtube vids it's pretty clear the game generates chunks like Minecraft. There's no way it's keeping track of all those solar panels ringed around the entire planet, having all those chunks rendered and keeping track of which chunks have sunlight and how much power is being generated where. It would take a whole ton of time and effort and would be very, very unlikely to work at all in the end. Even a small planet. I guess you could test this by doing it on the moon (build a solar panel somewhere, then string extenders halfway around it and see if the yellow arrows every show up).
You are better off having a mix of power sources. Large solar if you can find one, with two panel solar arrays, smaller ones if necessary, the windmills scatter around you base some of which might even be a ways off. Then up to 4 large batteries for the times of no wind. Finally a generator to burn foliage when necessary. I just wish they have a sensor in the game to turn the generator off when the sun rises.
If for practicality, a massive solar farm and battery bank is better
