I'm not 100% that there was literally no way to somehow salvage that save, but if there is then it is complicated. Why can't the thruster work as it's supposed to dammit?
Additionally every planet has single use thrusters scattered here and there in dead end tunnels in the caves systems. There isn't a planet you can be stranded on without a bug or glitch messing things up. To answer your question, the single use thruster allows you to enter orbit and fly to one planet in range; once you enter another orbit, the thruster breaks and you need to land. You're never supposed to fly anywhere without an extra thruster, either.
If the planet doesn't have the resources to make a single use thruster (like if it's missing aluminum or something) then it will have resources for making a hydrazine one, and it's just a matter of time about bringing it online or finding a solid fuel one somewhere in the caves.
Thanks for your input. I think you missed two of my points, 1) I accidentally used up my resin to jumpstart my compound and resin production to produce everything else tethers included. Because I used it I can't produce or explore anything. There is no compound or resin in my exploration range.
2) An unused thruster I found is not working properly in launching me to another planet. That is the bug. It explodes during launch and I'm stuck in orbit, I can't even go back down. I don't sacrifice more than one slot for tethers on an expedition with a small shuttle.
