How exactly does the solid thruster work on the small shuttle?
It's supposed to be a one shot boost right? Well I used it no problem for launching several times now but suddenly when I'm launching off the radiated, the thruster pops off during launch and I'm stuck in space. Pressing z or x shows a prompt that says need thruster !! What am I supposed to do?

you should be able to land on the planet your orbiting even without an unbroken solid thruster, if your on the zoomed out map where you click a planet to go to, click the planet your at and it should put you in the landing on planet part and you should be able to land on the planet your orbiting to replace the thruster

Thanks but I know that, the problem is I cannot leave the planet and nor are there any resources on the planet to craft another thruster. The thruster breaks a few seconds after launch and I can't travel to other planets. The save file seems to be screwed then since it's a bug?

i've had the same problem iirc. it was long ago but i think it was i started to unpack the thruster and then stopped the unpacking. it was now useless.

Are there actually planets that straight *do not have* the resources to build a small thruster? Not even digging between caves and making use of crash sites, wreckage, bodies and the trade platform?

Well the thing is, I had absolutely nothing to build it with xD I mistakenly used one of my only 2 resins for something, instead of building a platform to build the soil centrifuge.. stranding myself. I looked around the surface and in the caves A LOT and ventured down as much as I could with only 1 pack of tethers. No resin apparently, and stranded.

I'm not 100% that there was literally no way to somehow salvage that save, but if there is then it is complicated. Why can't the thruster work as it's supposed to dammit?

A single pack of tethers isn't going to get you far. Some planets have "common" resources that are very sparse. Resin is definitely there somewhere. If it's not on the surface, it's in the caves, it's just a matter of getting far enough before you eventually find it.

Additionally every planet has single use thrusters scattered here and there in dead end tunnels in the caves systems. There isn't a planet you can be stranded on without a bug or glitch messing things up. To answer your question, the single use thruster allows you to enter orbit and fly to one planet in range; once you enter another orbit, the thruster breaks and you need to land. You're never supposed to fly anywhere without an extra thruster, either.

If the planet doesn't have the resources to make a single use thruster (like if it's missing aluminum or something) then it will have resources for making a hydrazine one, and it's just a matter of time about bringing it online or finding a solid fuel one somewhere in the caves.

Thanks for your input. I think you missed two of my points, 1) I accidentally used up my resin to jumpstart my compound and resin production to produce everything else tethers included. Because I used it I can't produce or explore anything. There is no compound or resin in my exploration range.

2) An unused thruster I found is not working properly in launching me to another planet. That is the bug. It explodes during launch and I'm stuck in orbit, I can't even go back down. I don't sacrifice more than one slot for tethers on an expedition with a small shuttle.

So if ALL single use thrusters are screwed, that only leaves you with hydrazine (you were not clear about whether the bug affected just that one thruster you reused multiple times [which you should not have been able to do] or whether it affects all of them). There's no way to bring that online if you can't find any compound whatsoever anywhere. And if you're stuck in space with no way to land, I don't even see the need to ask any questions, you're obviously stuck there and there's no way around it. The only available controls are 'zoom out' or 'land,' so if you can't go anywhere, yeah, a save wipe is your only way out, I'd say.

The problem is that hydrazine cannot be produced on Radiated -- there's no iron to make an atmospheric condenser but even then Radiated has no hydrogen on it. You'll have to find or make a solid-fuel then, otherwise your save is borked. For future reference the solid-fuels have 2 charges. Going into orbit and going from orbit to another planet each use a charge. So with one solid-fuel you can go to different areas of your planet twice or to another planet once (not including return trips!).
Hmm, well then my thruster must be thinking that it has only one charge for some reason, only enough to go into orbit. Why did that happen I wonder.. Also I recall that this thruster was one I found. So maybe it's a bug with found thrusters.

That doesn't even sound like a bug, really. No reason to expect a found thruster to be pristine and re-usable. (Visual indication of remaining charges would be good though.) The teaching moment here is that what you want on your first journey into space is tethers and oxygen tanks to increase your exploration range, and enough resources to assemble and operate a mineral extractor.

Yeah I reviewed my exploration package after this. I thought I found the perfect combination fitting in one bag but I made a mistake again xD I'm not sure if the found thruster situation is intended or not though. I never seen it happen before. It happen to you?
