How do i know what planet i started on ?

You always start on the "Terran" planet.

The specific terrain and features are randomly generated each game, but it should always have the same _kind_ of features, usually wrecks within a certain radius of the landing site and simlar mineral deposits to any other time you start the game. Just in different places.
