maaaaaaaaaybe.
so to answer the question storages are useful for a few facilities.
imagine going out in your large rover and filling 8 or so soil canisters with its drill, now you can move the medium storage with those canisters to a platform with a centrifuge and an empty medium storage on the other side. it'll auto fill from the canisters, and dump all the materials made to empty storage slots. so i could make 8 organic, have them all go to a single storage.
now i need carbon, i can take that organic filled storage, and move it to the smelter, and it'll pull all that and move it to storages as well as it finishes them. then i take the rack of carbon and add it to me medium generator platform that can store 40 carbon for 1 generator. essentially never running out for a long time.
theres other fun uses for storages but the Xtra large is by far the only real poinltess one. that and maybe large platform C, but i find it handy for my trade station and shredder.

I organized my materials around the various crafting stations. Helps a ton.

So just make a hollow spot for items to fall into?
You still have to move it all back up again though right?
Or next time its headed all the way down.
