For anyone else that needs info not in the crappy in-game "Astropedia" here's the link to the Small Shuttle[astroneer.gamepedia.com].
The Small Shuttle is the lowest tier of shuttle available, and is the first one the player can print. There are two Tier-2 slots on the Shuttle. The Shuttle needs either a Solid-Fuel Thruster or a Hydrazine Thruster to function. When the player is seated in the shuttle, pressing C or V will launch the shuttle into orbit. When in orbit, the player can choose where to land on the current planet, or press C or V again to travel to another planet.
Possible spoilers:
Make a spare solid fuel thruster - in my opinion the game interface can catch out new players and trick them into using the thruster more than required for the journey out.
If you are going to a new planet build an oxygenator.
Don't unpack the oxygenator because it only takes one slot when packed, and you could use the two slot on the small shuttle for carrying other stuff.
The main difficulty is deciding what else to bring to a new planet/moon and maybe some players will even disagree with the above as not vital.
