Landing on Pads?
SO, i setup a lovely base next to a Gateway Chamber, made it look nice and pretty https://i.gyazo.com/e1d9423a0912d5e37aa326cd9dd66d73.jpg and installed a landing pad. I can launch from the pad fine, but i can never land on it from space, i have to land at the nearest natural landing spot, then drag the shuttle back. Can i really not land on a landing pad? WHat am i doing wrong?

And, no i dont have a shuttle on it, i only have 1 large shuttle that i use, and i would be in it in space.

All I can think of is the landing pad may have been set up too close to the Gateway to function properly? There has been a minimum distance requirement on them for as long as I can remember playing the full release. Was the light on the collapsed version of the pad green or orange when you were setting it up? In previous versions, that used to be the only way I could tell if I had it far enough away to work properly when I was setting everything up (I haven't tested in the latest to see if it's been made more or less obvious).

The pad was green, it was orange first, then i moved it back till it went green showing it could expand, which i did as seen in the picture.

I think im just gonna rethink things, my next plan is to build a large central hq on the satallite station, maybe have smaller outposts on each planet at the nearest natural landing site to a chamber, from which i can setup mining operations of that planets specific resources. The great thing about the satalitte station is its already flat, so no need to terraform it just right, its already lit up, and it comes with 4 spots to land, so i can keep atleast 1 shuttle there all the time, not to mention the fast travel network.

I always build my main station on the first planet. If I ever start again, I'll try to move my base right off next to a gateway, since moving my first base was a pain. Anyway, move your landing pad around a bit. You might have it too close to the landing zone that was already there. Like movie it to the other side of the gateway and see if you can two separate bubbles. I bet the bubbles there are so close together that you can't tell from space.

its fine, ive abandonded that project, ive relocated everything, inclusing my starter planet base up to the satallite, its going really well.

Sounds like a real pain in the butt, but to each his own.

not really, this is it so far, ive layed out 8 xl c platofrms around the outside with 16 xl b platofrms in the center for extra storage, has everything i could possibly want there.

Cool, now when you want to go drive around a planet in a large rover, what do you do?

im not just having the one base, im planning on having outpost bases on all the planets, as close to a chamber as possible, so i can teleport to them if i need. The satallite base is just a repositary of everything. you would have to shuttle around the planets for differenet resources anyway, so its no differance. My mining bases are still functional, on the planets, they just need a bit of an upgrade.

grr, i built a base on atrox and got the landing pad working, and showing from orbit i could land on it, but upon playing today, now i cant, i have to land on a natural landing area some distance away, and drag the shuttle over. Ive checked theres nothing blocking the pad, i even redeployed it, but its not showing up anymore from orbit.

I've never had that problem. I always put a beacon in the middle of the pad. I'd move it around if I was you, see if that helps.

yeah, the annoying thing is i like to have the launch pad as the center of my base, i tested it when i put it down, and it worked fine, i then built up my base encircling the base, and the launch pad still worked, then i saved the game, and resumed the game the next day, and then it stopped working, so if i have to move the launch pad, then i will have to move the entire base along with it.

Launch pads are super cheap to make.... Just make another one and see if it works. Then shred the other one, if you can, might be too big to shred.

my point was, if it did work, i would still need to move my base, though i suppose to make it look ok, i could plonk a shelter in the middle instead.

So what was the outcome? This discussion is weeks old.
