Where to find clay?

is clay one of those rare resources? I have only found one single piece of clay randomly out in an open field which i apparently used to create something since i can no longer find it in my base anywhere. dont think it just up and disappeared on me so i assume i used it on something.

I really want to make a drill mod for my tool. But i cant find any clay for the life of me. If checked mountains, ive checked the blueish purply biome ive checked other grassland areas ive dug into caves. and not a single bit of clay have i found. Am i just looking in the wrong areas?

It is seen on the normal land, small brownish lumps.

If you cannot find any you can make it on the Soil Centrifuge. 2 canisters of soil will get you 6 clay.

I rarely find Clay. But Soil centrifuge is the most reliable way to get some.
Add the Wide and Boost Augments to your Terrain Tool and it will fill the canisters for the Centrifuge so much faster.
I have spent entire play sessions leveling mountains wearing about 6 empty canisters to make elements using the centrifuge.

You can also use your vehicles to collect soil for you. Put a drill on the front and load up the storage with empty canisters and drill away.
