Well, dev studios and publishers have a habit of giving their games away for free on EGS.
Subnautica being free there was an insult to every EA contributer.
Maybe SES will do the same in the future, but we shall keep the faith.
This is so idiotic & not true. Only time I've seen people complain about games going free is FPS or multiplayer games because of the cheaters easily getting new accounts. So yeah, funny how I see price cuts and free game complaints only when epic entered the picture. if I backed up an EA game and it became free (I have) - it wouldn't be an insult. It's their game, they can choose to set the price, and no one forced me to pay. Also expands the community in single player games. Idk, get a grip if you have that mindset.
think about that before you speak again of epic.
Not many players blame companies to make THEIR games available only on their platform. I think a lot more people would be pretty heated if epic made the exclusives permanent. If they were to ever go that route, then they’ll get called out on it for sure. And yeah it’s been around for things like consoles etc, but players always hated that too. We never gave pats on the back for that.
As for Epic with temporary exclusives, it’s not ideal but I’m okay with it. Just hope it doesn’t push steam or themselves to go further than that. I think they’re capable of making a successful/decent platform without having to resort to such things at the end of the day.
wow, someone missed the point entirely! exclusivity, in itself, isn't the problem. A company BUYING exclusivity for the sole sake of reducing competition at the expense of the end-user (i.e you) IS a new thing, and something customers should not support. Especially from a Chinese gaming conglomerate like Tencent. It's totally different from consoles where the purpose of exclusivity is to support the sale of, and investment in, hardware. This is artificially implemented at the end of a development cycle, where they pick and choose winners/losers and give the developers a boat-load of cash in a blatant attempt to subvert competition and steal market-share from Steam.
It's utterly ridiculous to me that people try to rationalize this anti-consumer behavior. It doesn't serve anyone's interest but their own, and it's especially egregious considering the sad, underdeveloped state of the platform itself. They know they can't compete on the basis of the ACTUAL PRODUCT, so they undermine market forces in an attempt to STEAL market share instead of winning it through competition. It's a disgusting practice imo.
