Why would you ever use large storage???
It takes up more space than a small one and holds the same amount. Is it's only purpose to put on a spaceship?

Add it to the large rover or for us old timers the truck. If you create a 2nd truck and use it as a trailer you can add two large storage racks and carry a huge around of items on small racks or up to 8+1 research plus the 4+1 on the truck itself. Now imagine that many small racks each with 8 items and you have a massive amount of items for building.

Put 8x Medium Storage on 2x Large Storage = 64 slots.

The downside I see to it is that the drill doesn't automatically fill any canisters attached to the large one. The ONLY benefit is that you can put more medium storage slots on it than the one rover

This seems not unlike a bug.

The last time I used the drill it did fill canisters on a storage rack. In fact I was filling canisters on the 2nd truck in a train. Cannot swear for the new upgrade.

There is a bug that it fills them sometimes, some not, can be a leading truck or following truck, doesn't seem to matter, could be linked to the trucks getting stuck in position bug, maybe they aren't seen as connected or something.

Smart thinking, can't beliieve I didn't think of that!

It's not immediately obvious that the storage module will overhang the ends of the rover and double its capacity, you have to experiment.

You can increase payload capacity on a shuttle by mounting a large storage on it and using a habitat as a cockpit. Maybe a rover 1-seat.

Or you can build a spaceship instead.. The shuttle will likely get patched at some point and this flagrant exploit will be fixed.

I didn't see the storage ship as an exploit so much as a janky preview of modular vehicle design. I wish there was a 45 degree cockpit that worked on a large storage rover, just for the Russian military moon buggy look.

You can use the habitat to pilot the spacecraft or shuttle. I put two on the ships and use one to pilot and the other to create a new base. Once I even fully loaded with habitats and fuel. I went around the sysem marking bases for future flights.

The balance might have been off a little, but this seems like the kind of thing you want players to be able to do, otherwise you end up with a single 'correct' vehicle design and why even have a modular system in the first place. I'm hoping they'll add basic aerodynamic requirements, with enclosed cargo modules to match the cockpits so those have an actual purpose, with ugly high capacity designs still being useful for vacuum work.

There isn't much point in having g'artists making an enclosed cabin and then adding it into the game, if it was never intended to be used.

They could have just added a stump of wood and let us sit on that.

The "modular" side could simply mean being able to plug in or unplug the modules. ie putting storage onto a vehicle or removing a seat. Not necessarily that people should be using their rescue pods to fly ships. Because that saving on 2-4 slots is so vitally important.
