Setting to turn off camera spinning while strafing?
I realize this post most likely belongs in the Suggestions + Ideas forum, but I am locked from posting there since I do not own the game.

This game looks great but the biggest thing preventing me from buying it is the vertigo inducing way the camera spins while strafing.

Is there a way to turn this off automatic camera rotation? I understand this game is currently in early access and that may just need to be added later but it is a big hurdle for playing this game for anyone susceptible to motion sickness.

Thanks!

You can just hold down the right mouse button to take control over the camera. If you don't move your mouse while holding said key, you camera won't change the direction it's facing at.

If the goal was only to hold the camera still occasionally while playing, your suggestion would work. However, the goal is to prevent motion sickness. Holding the right mouse button every time you strafe is cumbersome, making other mouse usage more difficult, and this tactic will inevitably fail when the user forgets to hold the button, making themselves nauseous.

This needs to be a toggle-able setting or preference option.

Right now you would have to use the right mouse button a lot to turn around anyway. But since you need to move your mouse in order to look somewhere else, that's completely normal and something you have in pretty much every game. The automatic adjusting of the camera when you strafe into another direction isn't this bad either. Keep in mind right now there's motion blur by default (which is why it's looking like it would cause motion sickness easily), but this can be switched off. Dramamine.

Thanks for the tip, but dramamine induced extreme drowsiness even using the non-drowsy variety and was less effective than meclizine or scopalimine for most who tried it during our gaming sessions.

In our testing, we have found that turning off motion blur is one of the least effective measures to reduce motion sickness. To properly address motion sickness, you have to prevent any factors that cause arbitrary or unusual camera movement or perceptions.

The worst culprits from our experience with other games are:
Too low or too high FOV
FOV shifts (like when sprinting)
Screen Shake, and things like Alcohol effects
Cameras which impact the environment or auto-center or move on their own accord for any reason

But I understand that you have lots of other pressing issues to work on with Astroneer still being in early access. I'll keep my eye on the patch notes and this thread nonetheless.

Thanks!
