Have you just done a spoke arrangement (as in spokes of a wheel)? i.e. added a node to the Habitat, and converted to a platform, added another node to the Habitat, and converted to a platform, and so on?
You need to run new nodes from nodes, with branches for the platforms.

For each of the nodes that you add Resin to extend, I have used all the lifepod had available and converted them to their respective platforms (smelting, trade station, printer and research).

something similar to this is what ive done in the last 3-4 fresh starts that i have done, and its honestly the only efficient way i have found to build a base and not box yourself in or cut off power to platforms
