Both freeze the current state. Although the latter does that to the whole OS.
Depends on the use case. If you suddenly go afk and are eager to save energy, probably expect to be away for more than 5min and nothing else that requires the PC to continue is running, it makes sense.
Alternatively, you could use tools such as Process Hacker and freeze the process real quick. Few more clicks than just "Esc", but still fairly fast to do.
Of course, those are all just temporary suggestions.
even when im running around underground on a small generator and air filters, the whole point is that "the land provides". I already have the generator and organic, I just need compund to make a small printer and a chair. It's super fast, can easily be done in the span of 1 filterand even most caves have frequent patches of compound and resin. Sure, sometimes, the algorithm flips you the bird there, but rarely enough to have a hard time making a chair. I don't see what peoples hangup is. How far are you going off tether that you can't plan a pee break around a handfull of filters? unless you have a parent, pet or SO that surprises you with a minor emergency, whats the pause button for? This game is about problem solving, and its embarassing telling people who have played for more than 5 hours to just make a chair, but there it is.
if your system is habitually unstable, it can be, but otherwise not really. Any stable computer made in the past 10 years is pretty safe to SLEEP in game as long as the game is not maxing out your systems abilities. If it is, set all the visuals and the resolution to low and then do it. Personally, like I said aboce, just make a chair.
JUST MAKE A CHAIR
also, save and quit option is a state saver too, so you could just do that or
JUST TAKE A CHAIR
its a problem solving game guys, pause button is just....well we have a lot of options already and I hope they never make a pause button unless the game changes and you can't easily (you know whats coming)
JUST MAKE A CHAIR
sorry for yelling, but it's a problem solving game. Pause button......wow
EDIT: yes I know when this thread started, chairs didn't come in boxes, and quitting didn't save, but it wasnt hard to find 3 compound anywhere then either
I want a pause button. Call me "old school" I guess....Which is downright silly. Gaming seems to be the only thing that a pause a button is a course to insult though. Literally everything in life can be paused to an extent....Its just....Common sense...I dont go to a place like the movies to play games where its natural for things to not be paused because of life situations...Nor should anyone expect a movie to be paused in a theater for someones potty break....This is a game though...I mean come on lol. If thats what you want...Ok. You are the minority though. A pause button is pretty standard and expected....I literally see no negatives to it, what so ever. Why anyone would be against it...Is just beyond me. Other then being confrontational of course.
Just set it up like Grim Dawn for example..Pausable in SP only....Its not rocket science. Maybe if someone gave me a positive reason why this is needed to be removed, then maybe I could understand it...All I see are tons of negatives...0 positives...To removing a pause feature. There is literally nothing positive that comes from it.
I mean seriously...Do you feel this way about books, dvds, tivo, or whatever else has a pause feature, or you can just put down? I mean come on man....You make no sense being so against it. Anyway, all those suggestions just make me not want to play the game more. I have no idea why you would think thats something cool to have, and you cant even explain it well enough for others to even uderstand why its there, but enjoy it. I personally think un pausable games is a ridiculous feature. At least Dark Souls had a somewhat explainable reason for it, even though i still think it was a stupid decision in offline mode....Even for the sake of a controller dying its pretty dang stupid. but I bet you think people should have some sort of gaming survival kit and tactics that you must employ, or you are just dumb and stupid for not having this, that and the other, while telling ANYTHING in life to hold off... Literally makes no sense objectively from a consumer standpoint but, whatever. Until you can respond objectively, this is pointless. I would love to know why this makes sense from a design standpoint, but no one knows why its like this....
The one thing ive noticed, and this is with any of these threads on this forum, is that the developers are completely absent. They post their logs and patch notes...Pretty standard...They dont have a presense here on the forums at all. So they basically show that they have no interest in communicating with us. There are tons on unanswered questions that would take them literally 2 seconds to answer...Yet..We are met with silence. We are posting in a 2 year old thread, still missing a pause feature, and not even a single breath of a word is mentioned by them, not even a "we are working on it" Even freakin one man dev studios do it for their fan base.. Go to the DUSK game. He makes fun of his own game in his forums. Its not a very thankful thing to do on the platform that basically made them successful, and by the people that gave them the chance to even do so. My thread has been up since the beginning of november -on the front page even with other people concerned- and none of them have even bothered to say anything what so ever. Positive or negative. Even though they changed the store description the day after I said something about it. So they are clearly reading it. Meh. This is what success gets us from System Era.
I agree 100%. No good reason not to have it.
Admittedly my prior post was a little strongly-worded LOL - but I was kinda frustrated. Sadly the issue kinda made me lose interest (for now, at least) in Astroneers, despite I loved most other aspects of it. It's not that it outright *ruins* the game, it's just that, s#!+ man, I have 500 games in my library and only so many hours in the day - I'll spend my time on games that don't offer needless annoyance instead, y'know?
If they add the pause feature in single-player I'd definitely go back to this game.
odd...they should i would think but i guess not so much
