Lost my base
I was driving arround with my rover. I got very far and then recognized, that i could not find my way back.
Its a bit funny, but i have to restart the game because i lost everything.
Next time i should place these markers. Then i can follow them to get back.

Actually, losing your base is a good thing. It forces you to take a long journey, which can be fun in itself. If you kill yourself, you'll return to base anyway.

Yes, the possibilty to loose your base is part of the game. And this makes it fun!
Its makes your learn from your faults and teaches you to act more carefully.

Joman, next time before you leave your base look at the stars. Remember which way they are moving. It should help you find your way home.

Ah... like the people did before they had GPS.

Yes, you will always start slighty to the right of the star path when facing sundown, if you follow directly under the stars you will eventually make it back to your initial start location.

The problem with getting permanently lost is that you can't start a new base with just a rover like you almost can with a spacecraft.

You could have killed yourself and spawned at base xD I mean unless your rover and your pack included crazily valuable and irreplacable items.

I once got lost on the Terran planet for three hours, wandered all over with my truck because I didn't place beacons. It was this moment that made me learn to step out and look at the compass, which only appears when the player hovers thier mouse over the character. I also had to learn navigation by the stars on the fly. Made it back to base...eventually.

And I bet you quite enjoyed the experience.

I did this on one of my first play's, 2 trucks loaded with research and titanium, fell into an open cave during a boxstorm so I suicided.. fml.
Now I just drop a beacon and dig an arrow out as needed :p

i have an issue with the beacons though, i find i lose visibilty of them rather quickly even if i place them atop a mountain.

Isn't it actually harder to see them if you place it atop a mountain? Because there is a little headspace above the beacon before the line starts stretching up and then the beacon sign.

My problem beacons are you can't see them through the storms or through the clouds in the sky. This doesn't make sense because beacons should be designed to point you in the right direction regardless of weather patterns xD I don't think it's intentional and will be fixed in the future.

One solution would be to enable a HUD with map - base, vehicles and beacons within a given range all visible.

I do not want a map. The possibility to get lost makes the game interesting.

Maps are useful, but I think it should be a togglable item, since some folks don't like the idea.

I tend to use beacons, they are easy to craft and every time I get far I put one down so I can find my way back using the beacons
