Astroneer and Mods - Bring it On!
Like many players who have played a lot of hours, the fun is no longer there for me. It becomes repetitive and boring eventually. Considering it's pre-alpha, this is hardly surprising. It's a fantastic game though, in its concept, art style and simplicity of mechanics, etc...

Anyway, I think modders will bring a freshness to the game that even the devs can't, because modders come up with whacky and radical ideas, most of which don't work, but then you get an absolute gem. So, here is the Trello tab...

Any ideas about how long this might take? One to two years?

Your thoughts on mods you'd like to see are welcome. Personally I like stories and characters. Think Half Life, Portal, Fallout, Machinarium, The Tiny Bang Story, Samorost.

Imagine a mod that used the vaccum gun as a portal device of some kind, so you could jump between planets. Imagine a version of Garry's Mod for Astroneer.

Modding is supposed to be at the end of the road map since the developers did not want to keep breaking mods through updates, which will happen during the Early Access phase.

GIve them a chance the game isn't really official yet. We are just playtesters for a product that hopefully will get more visually stunning and detailed in every way possible.

I have been thinking about suggesting that we need a more diverse list of raw products to 3D print something. For example a rover would need copper for the elctronics as well as compound for its frame and wheels. A truck would add aluminum for a stronger body and maybe even resin as well. So instead of just 4 aluminum you need copper, compond, resin and aluminum to 3D print a truck.

Great example: Kerbal Space Program modding! I think it started in beta (not alpha) but it went on for years until and after gold came out. New update, many mods work, some mods break, a few days later: mod update, fixed. So I for one wouldn't mind to go that path again, since it's also a great way to select essential/popular mods (the others won't get updated after a while and fade away).

We can safely say that a consistent part of KSP success was the modding community, even during early access....
